I like the idea of using the brass etching to make the dreadnought stand out but the etching around the head is a bit much. It may just be the angle at which you took your pictures but it seems to me that the etchings are drowning out the work you did to get the head on there in the first place. This is just my opinion if you like the model you should keep it they way you made it.

I like the model but not the paint job. You took the time to put the details on the vehicle and now you can not see them. I think I would try another color scheme. Plus, he is suppose to be close to 9 meters tall. Don't think the tiger stripes are going to hide him.

I think the striping on your vehicles and other dread would have worked better IMHO.

Well the WIP shots had me stoked to see what was going to happen...

And then paint happened and...well...sigh...

I realize it's your scheme, but there has to be a way to make it look...good?

Then again, they are your models, you paint them the way you like, in my opinion the current paint scheme on the dreadnought (and your whole army) drowns out the details on the model(s) and doesn't let you focus on anything, as nothing is different, everything is the same colours...bleh.

Actually I like this color scheme, it's unique among space marines and makes the army stand out among it's peers, while making it blend in to the terrain (which is the point )

Neat conversion too btw.

Camo paint schemes just don't fit space marines, they don't hide from the enemy, they show up and act as much as a symbol of Imperial might as a material asset. Perhaps a quartered scheme that's half camo and half bright colors would work.

I like the paint scheme. I think it's pretty unreasonable to suggest he change the entire army.

However, the camo pattern makes it hard to see detail, which means the important areas (head, weapons, marking, eagles) need to be painted in quite a striking, contrasting colour.

I think the problem on the dread is that it's hard to see a lot of the detail you put into the model. I would paint the head, etching/cage and exhausts in contrasting colours - maybe grey or a metallic for the exhausts, tobreak up the model a bit...

Otherwise, good work!

While most SM chapters disdain camo, a fair few older chapters have been painted with camo schemes. In fact, the last codex had a trait specifically for camo SM chapters, "See but Don't Be Seen" IIRC

I hate the ironclad model, but you did a good job painting it.

To the OP, all I have to say is, its YOUR ARMY! Not anyone here. You put the work into it. If you like the paint scheme, then dont let them make you doubt yourself. At least your army is fully painted and matching. Id bet some to most of them cant say that.

Nice work on that IronClad btw.

You sir have a lotta Space Marines.

I dig the camo...If anything it kinda says "I'm here, come get me if you dare!".

I agree with K.Cracker, do want you want!

Nice, very nice.

You might draw more attention to the striping of your army if you include some areas of paint not covered in patterns. Personally I don't enjoy patterns, but if I were to do a similar project, I would see how the Ironclad would look with one hand painted solid black, as well as darkening the piping and connecting areas. This contrast wont ruin your tiger scheme, and it'll give more shape to your models.

I think you have copped a beating in this thread for what is great work

In another thread I just read the opinion was split about the Marines Malevolent in the Salamanders story - for me its straight up, marines are defenders of humanity and all the fluff I have read supports that - in that sense I completely agree with warpcrafter - you cannot steal initiative from marines because they rely on their powerarmour to protect them while they return fire and suppress the enemy.

How does that apply here - these guys are clearly more concerned with achieving surprise - remember aircraft carriers use camo, there is NOTHING tactically unsound about using even the small amount of benefit if its there

I do agree applying this uniformly has obscured some detail - think there are probably some cunning ways you could get around this - put black edges around important details, consider your highlighting etc

Important point is like everything dont that opinions on the net to heart - its clear how much love and time you have put into this army, you must be proud of it so enjoy it!

I like them... though the models with the smaller stripes look better than the ones with the larger and fewer stripes.

Did you use an airbrush on those tanks perchance?

There is a marine chapter just like yours in one of the old 1st edition compendium type books.

I think adding some nice line highlights to the stripes would make a world of difference , some white lining would add depth to the stripes and break it up a bit I think this would really set it off . But it has to be done with very thin lines if you feel you cant get that with a brush try a white pencil .
