The horses from the Bretonnian Knights Errant / Knights of the Realm can be painted up to IMO look more 40kish.

I don't think you need the Chaos bits,if it's only the arm, best use spare guardsmen arms,or something from the Empire set.

Loved this idea and it has sparked my imagination. What do you gents think of using these Ramshackle Bikes, Tempestus Scions chests/arms/heads, and these weapons I found on Shapeways to model my own Death Riders? I think the Scion arms have enough variation for me to have plenty of poses, I'll probably buy some extra grenade launcher arm bits as the left hand will probably make it easy to attach to the handlebars. I figure I will add extras to the rear of the bike to help buff them up a bit. Hopefully the scales are similar enough, I'm concerned the scion parts are slightly larger than the legs which are modeled onto the bikes.

Awesome, i've been looking at making my own rought riders as GW's are just beyond terrible.

Those spears are perfect but ridiculous expensive. $32 USD for 10 if you are in the EU

There's also space marine scout bikes for a more beefy w40k look

I looked at scout bikes, but I just think they're too chunky and wasn't sure what to do about the gaps in the front shield as I would not include the twin bolters.

Yeah, those spears are kind of expensive BUT they are very detailed and unique. I am really hoping I can do them justice by chopping them up and putting them on scion banner arms and maybe the command staff? Part of why I went with them is because I'm in the US and most bits stores are in the EU, so more expensive for me, haha.

I pulled the trigger on all that stuff, so I'll probably start my own thread in the modeling sub forum to show my progress. I really hope the legs on those bikes aren't too different of a scale to the scion bodies and arms.

I've been plotting my own conversion.

As far as bikes go, my favorite so far are the mad robot version.

But its rather expensive, and I'm not really sold on bike rough riders anyway. I'm looking at Perry Miniatures cavalry, but they're all one piece and I don't much fancy having to saw all the legs off. Can't beat the price though.

I am rather suspicious GW included rough riders as a unit option in the book since they don't sell them anymore. Hopefully that means they're going to come out with a new kit!

Yeah it puzzled me as well. TBH I really feel that the IG line needs an overhaul and it would be awesome if they released additional regiments instead of 50 shades of Marines.

Probably work

Hrm. Those mad robot bikes are actually pretty nice. I dunno though. I already have some Victoria conversion bits for rough riders that I ordered years ago and never did anything with.

https://victoriaminiatures.com/products/10-man-rough-rider-conversion-kit-resin

I really like the bike look (I feel like horses are weirdly retro for 40k) but I don't know if those bikes would work with the legs I already have. I suppose I just need to look for some GW horses and go with them.

Does anyone have an opinions on the Wargames Factory horse models? I'm... less than impressed with their greatcoats, but I could see soft detail on horse models actually not being too bad.

Well I finally got all the components for my kit bash. Sadly these bionic arms I wanted to try are too thin to look correct. Which is a shame too because they are in the shape to hold the handle bars.

The ramshackle motorcycles look really cool. They lack the amount of detail in current games workshop kits but they still look nice. The scale is spot on if you put Cadians on them. Just ever so slightly small if you put Scions on them like I'm doing. But with packs and pouches and stuff they look good.

I think I need to buy a bunch of the Scion grenade launcher left arm to grip the handlebar. It's a bit off for the angle I need so I'm trying to think of the best way to cut it and reposition or green stuff the shoulder to get it right.

They are looking good though. Figured I'd keep this updated as I make progress.
