What are your thoughts on this one then....

There is no mention (I can find) in the codex or rules of units being able to use captured weapons out of type. Do any folk out there play 'House Rules' where this can be brought to the table? Or is this considered heresy? (no pun intended)

An example, for role play sake an Ork picks up a Meltagun after a battle and decides "Dis aza good bitta kit, I'z gonna melt sum hummies wid it!"
In game terms the model would use the Ork BS and the stats of the weapon, obviously.

I'll 'fess up now. I've got some bits and bobs knocking around and I've been looking to convert some nobs or boys. I didn't want to waste my time on a model I cannot game with.

Orks + captured weapons = conversion to Lootas / Flash Gitz.

Orks use captured weaponry all the time, it just gets "Kustomized" first.

lootas in the previous dex used to use different weps (and were a heavy support choice)
You could run them as a unit layout (tac squad - bolters, bolt pistol and CCW, heavy wep and special wep)
Sniper scout - all orks with snipers (amusing)

but gone of those days.

Now you can only legally do it as counts as.

I would have no problem with "counts as" imperial weapons on orks.

Counts as is your friend.

All of my Lootas have imperial weaponry, ranging from HBs, to ACs, to MLs, and even LCs...if it is an Imperial heavy weapon, it it probably in one of my Loota squads.

Im doing something quite similar with the new freebooter mob im making (Da Kat Burglaz)...every ork in the army has a captured imperial or chaos weapon...usually just strapped to his back or something...i never planned on using the weapons I just thought it would be pretty orky...but knowing this perhaps that nob does have a combiplasma pistol now?

Kind of off topic, but I have to say that I was a bit of a sad Panda when 3rd edition came in and I could no longer field as many orks with heavy plasma guns and mount multi-meltas on buggies.
