I just wanted to share my concept for my Tau Cadre in the process of being painted. With my first unit of fire warriors, here is the color scheme. Sinestro's Corps.
The blue hands are just a concept of having glovless hands. It looks odd in the picture I might go with black gloves.
The Corps insignia will be transfers as my detail painting is not that good. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
As for the other units are disgnated by each of the colors of the spectrum:
XV8 Commanders: Green Lanterns (Willpower)
XV8 Bodyguards: Blue Lanters (Hope)
Kroot: Red Lanterns (Rage)
XV25 Stealth: Indigo Tribe (Compassion)
Sniper Drone Team: Orange Lanterns (Avarice/Greed)
Piranha: Violet (Star Sapphires/Love)
Broadsides/Hammerheads: Black Lanterns (Death)

I've never read that comic. The contrast if done with the right highlights will look good but yellow is so hard to master.

Ah my colour scheme for my tau is a yellow and it's easy.
After i undercoat black I start with a Khemri Brown foundation to give a better colour to paint the yellow onto. Then using a slightly watered down Iyanden Darksun foundation paint paint 2 layers (don't worry about getting it into the cracks). Then do a highlight mix of Iyanden Darksun and bleached bone to highlight any of the edges. Finally (i make my own washes) use a weak dark brown wash and fill in the cracks, weak enough not to affect the yellow with any unsightly, patchy, dried wash. And TADDAAA! you've got yourself a smooth, crisp and defined yellow
Hope that helps

Gloveless Hands is a cool idea, but every different unit type being a different color seems like it would look too mish-mashed on the gaming table. I think you should pick a main neutral-ish color for your entire army, then do certain parts of their armor in the fitting corps color. Firewarrior guns and shoulder pads would be yellow, kroot bellies and quills would be red, battlesuit heads and weapons would be their appropriate color, etc. . . . But definitely keep a defining main color unrelated to the lanterns throughout the army.

Here is a test for my yellows. The lighter yellow is done with several layers of Apple Barrel Craft Paint and a Gryphon Sepia Wash. The Darker yellow is a foundation Vallejo Plague Brown, then base Gold Yellow, Wash Gryphon Sepia and finally highlight craft paint yellow. Which looks better?

Yellow on the right side of it looks good, although a bit pale.

That's what I thought that the craft paints were too pale. So, I tried the gold yellow to get a deeper yellow and I guess it didn 't come out too well. Good thing I used the interior of my Devilfish to test my colors.

IMHO I still say that you should use Iyanden Darksun foundation paint with a few highlights. It will come out crisper everytime

I'd use both, add some interest to the look of your Tau.
That said, I'd suggest you rethink your technique. What you're doing has a somewhat uneven effect, and Tau look best with a very smooth, clean coat. It's a ton of work to get such an even coat, but it's worth it. Do the blending work just at the edge of the panels.

Actually, since you are not adverse to using “craft paint”, I would suggest using Cerama-Coat Yellow. It has more of a golden tone to it and does not look chalky like the apple barrel can sometimes appear. Also, there is a higher amount of pigment from my experience so it gives better coverage.

Thanks, I'll try that. The Cerama-Color always looked a little too thick for my taste. Apple Barrel always comes out chalky. For now, I used Sunburst Yellow as my top coat and it came out just the way I wanted it to. I'll post pics when the FW Unit is done.
