I ran across this at the local group, and wanted to make sure this was a LOCAL ruling, not a GW fiat.

Per the "most current WH codex".. Rhinos are 50 points, with a stormbolter standard, smoke launchers costing + 3.

Per the "most current SM codex" .. Rhinos are 35 points, and come with SB and smoke as standard.

One of the local players is doing Mech Sisters (as I am) and wants to pay the SM cost instead of the WH cost. (a savings of 18 points, over 3 squads = 56 pts)

COSMICALLY speaking, not a terribly game breaking thing. But I admit to a bit of jealously.

He cannot point to a "official" ruling that GW made for the point change.. just that it "feels right" and balances out across the MEQ armies.

Does the Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Black Templars, Chaos Space Marines ALL have the 35 point Rhinos and that it SHOULD be (in your personal opinion) the same for SOBs? (don't have those codexes)

My personal make-or-break is what ever Space Wolf rhinos end up costing.. if they are also 35 points, I am more likely to adopt this myself..

(yeah, a RAI vs RAW point, sorry)

So, I am doing the "codex cost" for myself and possibly taking a percieved 50 point hit on a list .. but would you?

(and.. IS there a GW document that FAQ'ed the Rhino costs?)

He pays the point cost in the WH codex. AFAIK only the regular SM 'dex has 35pt Rhinos, everyone else is still paying 50. Nothing is FAQ'ed, if you're building from the WH 'dex you pay WH points and suck it up.

Nah, I think it's only WH and DH who still pay 50pts for rhinos. But that's the cost in the codex, so that's what we have to pay, unless you have a group who'll let you use the IA update pdf.

But WH really need extra armour, which only costs 8pts in our codex, whereas all those cheap rhino armies have to pay 15pts for it, so it doesn't really matter in the end!

If everybody agrees on a certain house rule, you can of course always do whatever you want. However, I'd say that if the Rhino costs 50 points in the WH codex, you should pay 50 points for it. I understand that sucks in a way because the WH codex isn't the newest, but it's not the only codex that hasn't been updatet for a while. In my opinion, you can't just cherry-pick/mix-and-match your point costs in whatever fashion you like or feel that they should be - even if your feeling might be right.

Yes, that was kinda my thought as well... else we would have Deathwing players using the SS rules from the current Dex..

cherry picking rules aside, do the other codexii have the 35 point Rhinos or not?

If they do, at least that might indicate FUTURE point costs and I can live for that day..

The codices are independent. Sisters pay more for their Rhinos. On the up side, they pay less for their extra armor. And their smoke launchers, which have a specific entry in their codex which contradicts the smoke launchers rule in the main book, are superior.

Yes, 35 pts appears to be the future point cost of Rhinos (SM and DA). BA pay a few more for their engines and BT haven't been updated yet so are still paying the inflated cost + upgrades.

House ruling the future cost (35) isn't going to kill the game, but it will open a can of worms you might regret. Where, as a group, do you stop cherry picking?

Like I said, if you all agree, then by all means go for it. I'd love cheap Chimeras for my INQ Stormies.

in the WH codex, Smoke Launchers specifically reference the main rulebook.. no special rules.

Us blood angels pay 40 points for our rhinos, but they are superior to normal rhinos.

Almost.

Forgeworld released an amendment for their Imperial Armour 2 book with revised points costs etc, here, which might be what he's referencing.

So.. Not Actual Official GW.. just "as official as anything FW makes" level of authority.

and yes, that was slightly facetious.. I know that FW overcosts stuff.. and I think that document IS what this guy is using.

He has sheets that look like that as printouts.. I thought they were home-brewed..
