I apologize if I am commiting Heresy here. Since from discussion here and in the FLGS has conviced me to do a SM force I have decided to do a DIY chapter. Yes I know, but I never did like doing things like everyone else.

The basics are a recent founding with the Chapter being based off of the battle barge "Emperors Devine Redemption". The name of my Chapter will be Malevolent Redemers, a reflection of their primary mission of recovering the Imperial planets that the Tau captured in the expansion of their frontiers. They are also tasked with standing ready to deal with the Tyranids, Orks, and Pirates from the Maelstrom. They draw their recruits from all over Ultima Segmentum, which does cause conflicts from time to time with the Ultramarines and other chapters in the area when they are recruiting the same planets at the same time. Still working on filling out the history and back story.


Now is this the question, (finally).
Due to experience fighting the Tau during the latest expansion this Chapter will be established to be self sufficient in a planetary assault. They will maintain the ten company TOE. However the tenth company will be heavy support (Indirect fire), the ninth will be infiltration and recon, while the first and second will be Terminators to make up for the two companies that are not standard assault companies. Does this fly? I know it isnt a straight reading of the "book" but TOE and numbers are not a big change from standard TOE IMO.

All helpful suggestions and comments are welcomed.

Since a MEB is task-organized, it makes sense to consider the chapter to be like 1MarDiv, and your 40K MEB to be the MEU or MEB formed out of primarily 1MarDiv elements.

DIY chapters can be fun. Yours sounds like its off to a pretty good start.

The question of force organization (BTW, I didn't see any question marks, so I assume this is what you wanted to get opinions on ) is totally up to you.
If you have the 1st and 2nd as the termie companies then that is totally your decision (and it would be pretty badass to field 2 companies of terminators in a battle).

The only issue I can think if one of fluff. TDA is very valuable and rare in M41, so have a chapter, especially a recent founding chapter, have access to so many suits of TDA, might be a bit hard to swallow.

However, you could write it that a bunch of different chapters got together to found this new chapter, for this specific purpose, and all contributed to the armory of it. That could be plausable.

That was one of my concerns. I was thinking of making one company armored, but I just dont associate armor with a sudden quick assault from an unexpected direction. However with part of my backstory being friction with the Ultramarines and other chapters in the area because of recruiting I dont think that these chapters would be donating extra TDA to fill a second company.

Two whole companies of Termies would be hard to swallow, but if you want the "Surprise armored assault" feel, then go for a Company that is an Armored Company primarily of Land Speeders (or Land Raiders). Land speeders = deepstrike, from low flying ships. Land Raider = can deploy from underwater (fluffwise, of course).

Those two vehicles strike me as two that have a strong capacity for surprise assault!
