The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Ah, good. I saw the PDF earlier and I thought the entirety of the 'mission generator' was the Rule 13 stuff and the blank mission page. Now that I've read it with the other stuff it's a bit more reasonable.

I really wanna see what kinds of cool missions people come up with and what kind of community support this will have. Maybe someone will get bored and make an actual mission generator complete with plug and play board sections.

I really like this idea, maybe there could be a dakka database for homebrew hulk missions or campaigns?

That's a much better idea than letting it get lost on a thread somewhere, especially for those of us who seem to have Preferred Enemy: Dakka's Search Engine

I've been playing with that program since it appeared on Boardgamegeek. The good thing is editing the files isn't hard - good for if you own more than one set of Hulk tiles. Now if only they could add the Deathwing/Genestealer tiles, then it'd be perfect!!!

Adding the other tiles is pretty easy, you just need scans of the floor plans (obviously at the same scale) and use a text editor to update the .set files ( which are written in xml format) to include the new pieces.

I have to say that I was a tad disappointed by the mission generator - its essentially just a series of dice roll tables to determine forces/mission type etc and then 'oh make your own map' Ah well
My pet idea at the moment is to try and get hold of some assault termies for conversion and use them as squad Leodinus and write a series of missions about how they went into the hulk and what happened to ultimately leave Claudio alone. Just need to figure out how I am going to get a load of BA iconography onto the assault termies so that they don't look totally poor next to the SH ones
Other than that I will be using my noodle to try and come up with other more varied stuff - I'm thinking the asault on Horus' battle barge at the end of the heresy, underground bunkers (maybe the Soul Drinkers assault on the genetic facility) ooooh the possibilities are endless!

I am more than disappointed. The downright idiocy of that half hour article has lowered my wiew of JJ to levels comparable to that of H.b.m.c.'s (where do I join the club anyway?). There is a great amount of care that goes into a space hulk mission. You can't just randomly generate map, forces and objectives out of the blue. Amount of blips must be set in direct correspondance of map, space marine forces and objective. Map must be set up to reward proper use of tactics and include the right amount of fire lanes. The genestealers need ambush positions and terrain to shield themselves (in the form of doors if necessary) Numbers and statistics in the form of questions such as "how far can the marines go before the stealers are on top of them" / "how do you counter an ambush here" must be wrestled with even before you start working. A clear idea from the very start is necessary. It is not hard work, but it requires real thought (I usually work in grid paper instead of board sections (less distractions). Because I am such a nerd I have a good enough idea of most numbers and limitations of one set in my head (standard Space hulk set contains 7 "X" corridor junctions and 8 "T" junctions, for example)). Compared to other games-workshop games, playtesting space hulk scenarios is in one way much easier and in one way much more difficult. Easier because there are set forces, and you only need to check the balace of one match-up. Harder because by the time you have played your new mission 3-4 times (at the very least) you wont want to play it again, as there is only one match-up.
 off.
What would be a really funny idea would be to let all the dakkaites make their own stand alone mission (playtested for real, not in the manner of that filthy waste of space Jervis) for all of dakka to use. It could even be a nice next dakka challenge (best space hulk scenario)
