Which variant should I make? I will probably be going against:
Chaos
Necrons
Nids
Orks. LOTS OF ORKS

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Seeing as you'll probably be going againts a very wide variety of enemy types, for flexibility I'd just stck with a standard baneblade. Seriously, 10" blast templates will shred any infantry, and I once saw a single shot from the baneblade cannon take out 3 chaos tanks and a dreadnought. Although, if you're going to be using it with a space marine army, get a stormlord and fill it with devestators. They have 20 fire points, and a transport capacity of 40. They're armed with a vulcan mega-bolter, (I think they're s6 ap5 heavy 15) a twin-linked heavy bolter, and I think four slots which you can put lascannons and heavy flamers in.
Hope that helps.

Well, if you're playing IG I wouldn't get a stormlord, since you can't put anything good in it to shoot out of the back. Just go with a standard Baneblade.

if your playing ork use a baneblade, loads of heavy bolters and a main gun that uses a massive blast template

Stormlord.
Fill with "Heavy Mechanicum Constructs" (Oblits).
They can all fire out of it at different targets.

Not the stormlord, the 20 squads of individual oblits. The stormlord can fire at something else.

The Baneblade is probably the best of them, but I have a Stormlord. It may not be as good, and it may be more expensive, but it is so much cooler. The look on people's faces when you tell them it has a Titan weapon (just do not explain how it is the worst Titan weapon out there) is brilliant, and who does not like rolling buckets of dice? Yesterday, I had a Landspeeder directly in front of the Stormlord and no other worthy targets in LOS. Overkill, maybe, but how is that not cool? Besides, there was a KFF Big Mek hitching a ride in the Stormlord, making it significantly cheesier.

I forget the variant type of the shadowsword chassis, but the one that shoots the Barrage template. Man, that capability to shoot things you cannot get line of site to can be in-friggin-valuable in the first rounds of a game.

oh snap, individual obliterators in a stormlord!

"I fire my 20 obliterators at your army"

"whats your target?"

"all 20 of your rhinos!"
