So I've decided to start a Nurgle chaos army. I remember reading a story a while back in one of those BL short story books that had an idea I thought was cool, but I can't for the life of me remember what the Marines chapter was in the story or what book it was.

The story is about an inquisitorial scribe traveling to a hospital to speak to a veteran of a nearby war zone. This imperial guardsman was the last survivor of his regiment that was assisting an astartes chapter in putting down a rebellion. During the fighting, a plague began to decimate the imperial troops and the apothecary of the marine chapter began giving all of the guardsman "vaccines" to try and fight the plague but to no avail. At the end of the story, the guardsman discovers that the apothecary wasn't giving the soldiers a vaccine, but was using them as guinea pigs to spread newer and more virulent forms of the disease. The guardsman then uses his flamer to torch everything, including the apothecary. Back in the hospital, someone turns on a light and the scribe sees the survivor is nothing but a horribly burnt torso, all of his limbs having been burned away in his purging of the apothecary's lab.

Anyone have any ideas about this story? Thanks in advance!

Somewhere in the unknown universe.

That was an awesome story!!!!

it's called "Pestilence"

The best part was that the flamer soldier was hurt by light even though he didn't have eyes.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
It was in "Let the Galaxy Burn"

the chapter was the Doom Eagles.

Congratulations, that was the stupidest remark the entire wargaming community has managed to produce in a long, long time.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

This was one of my favorite stories in that book. I know several folks who didn't understand what 'Lovecraftian' horror is. This is now the story I show to people as one of the best examples of the genre.

That was a good one - wasn't that the one where the guardsman realizes what the apothecary was doing when he notices the trio of buboes behind the apothecary's ear?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack
