Hormagaunt: WS4, BS whatever, cavalry, S3, T3, 6+ save, 2 attacks, I4......

New wolves: Same, but S4 T4, 2 less points per model.

Poor hormies :(

But hey, if trends are indications, just IMAGINE how cheap the hormagaunts are going to HAVE to be!

Well to be honest, fen wolves are nerfed compared to what they were in the 13th codex (2 points more but they had scout and ATSKNF). They also can't score or get frag nades like hormagaunts, both of which are notable difference.

That said, hormies still need some lovin. Hope they get it in the new dex, even if I've already traded all mine away.

Codex Creep? No... Hormagaunts aren't even as good as Spinegaunts. They didn't even stay worthwhile for the time it took to write the rest of their own Codex.

But don't get all bent out of shape if your opponent looks disdainfully upon your lack of originality while tabling you in 4 turns because he's got beating SMs down to an exact science after fighting them for hundreds of consecutive games.

Hormogaunts were never good in this codex. The release of wolves doesn't affect how good Hormogaunts are at all. Furthermore, I doubt that there will be too many people spamming wolves.

All I'm saying is that the wolves are so much better, for FEWER points.

gaunts can be good or suck as much in their own codex as they want. I'm simply comparing "look! More for less!"

And yeah, hormagaunts can get frag grenades.....if they want to pay MORE!

I am always disappointed by this;

to me hormagaunts seem more 'tyraniddy';
beasties with little guns just seems so silly next to a horde of beasties with big claws/talons.

in my mind they should be the same points wise.

The big issue with Hormagaunts is that they're still built and priced for 3rd edition close combat rules. In 3rd, Leap meant they were dishing out many more attacks than any other unit in the game (remember that models within 2" only got a single attack in 3rd).

Fourth and now 5th edition rules mean the field closed on them quite a bit. And when you consider the unit was a hair overpriced even in 3rd, you have their current predicament.

Personally, I hope they do more than just make everything cheaper in the new codex. Smaller and medium bugs need to get their punch back. There are more than enough fodder units in the army...Hormagaunts and Gargoyles don't need to be designated for "fast" fodder to boot.

Hormagaunts still wreck face if you have feeder tendrils nearby.

Not to mention they are fast enough to get to the other side of the board really fast for those annoying take the other guy's base missions. I try to field at least 1 or 2 units of 20 just because I'm a sentimental sap who also fields an inordinate number of warriors and some lictors.

All in all, they are REALLY expensive for what you get but don't get me wrong, they are still REALLY effective.

after some casualites, lets say 15 make it to combat, that is 45 ws5 re-rolling hits (because of lictors feeder tendrils) with strength 4.

Hormagaunts are like the Eldar's scatterlaser warwalker in combat!

Jesus Christ changed my life, He can do the same for you!
