Demolisher with Melta sponsons and a hull heavy flamer. I absolutely love this combination.

Start at the edge of your deployment. Move as far as you can and shoot the cannon the first/second turns. Then sit still and blast at anything. I run 2 of them. 3 in bigger games.

The multimeltas can seriously mess someone up. One of them pretty much always hits and its really fun when both do. The heavy flamer dissuades some units from trying to assault. And for 195 points you can take 2-3 in 1850 and be set. The multimelta sponsons really shine when shooting at a 5 man terminator squad or at a MC.

I shelved my vanquisher turret after using that combo for a few games. It is a tank and troop killing powerhouse. In addition to being woefully intimidating in a pair.

Mathhammer is NOT Warhammer.

I used 2 of them in the last RTT I went to where I won Best General. But although they are effective against everything, I didn't take them for that because if your opponent is smart a lot of the times you won't get to shoot anything the first turn, and get assaulted quicker.

I took it because I already had enough other pie plates and lascannons that I could take on anything else likely to come to that particular RTT except mass termies and Land Raiders. As it happened my 2 Demolishers did mostly nothing the whole tournament (except spent literally the whole of one game killing off a Defiler,) but the rest of my army was indeed more than enough to kill my opponents, just like I had predicted.

But if I there had been more Orks in that RTT I wouldn't have done so well despite the fact those Demos look good on paper. Having one or two more turns of shooting with a regular LR-HB/PC would have been huge versus orks.

I like the banewolf with multimelta. Since the banewolf gun is a defensive weapon, it's very similar to multimelta heavy flamer landspeeder except it can always move and shoot 12" and is armor value 12.

Edit: Also, the bane gun is AP 3, always wounds on a 2+ no cover. Damn good against 90% of units out there, and still decent against monstrous creatures and 2+ saves because of the poison rule.

Customers ask me what army I play in 40k. Wrong Question. The only army I've never played is orks.

The Connoisseur of Crap.
Knowing is half the battle. But it is only half. Execution...application...performance...now that is the other half.

I've been playtesting a pair of banewolves with multimeltas and smoke; moving 18" and smoke will hopefully safeguard you past turn 1. 2 AP3 2+ poison templates table basically any unit under 30 models, and a pair of BS3 multimeltas with a 24" threat will break an awful lot of tanks pretty reliably. Best of all, it's always moving 12" for 'assaulting-hits-on-6s-goodness'.

300 points is a tough price tag to swallow, but I'll be damned if isn't effective so far.
