I have a slight dilema as to what to include in my 'ard boys list for the next round, I got first place where I played and decided to make some changes to my list in that my core was 2 units of 4 chariots which di very well for me, 1 unit of 25 arhers with banner of undying legion which did very well also and then 1 tombswarm for my 4th core.
The 1 tombswarm didn't do too much except take out war machines my first game and then get a few extra wounds in combats. I was going to drop the casket of souls to beef up my core choices and add extra stuff to my magic items for characters (as people always save up dice for it which is good but made it ineffective and made a liche priest very vulnerable and immobile so there was 330 points of my army doing nothing most of the game).
I came down to either having 7-10 light horsemen to put a liche priest on horse with staff that does 3d6 s2 hits or 6 light horsemen with that priest and 2 tombswarms.
I guess my question is do you guys think 6 light horsemen in 3k points is enough of a unit to surive anything while having a liche priest in it? Or should I drop a tombswarm(s) to beef up the light horseman squad? And why?

Take small units of horsemen and claim/contest table quarters and they'll pay for themselves.

Yeah, that is the idea but I want to make sure a unit of 6 is survivable enough to take any shooting or magic should things go arwy =). I like the idea of having 2 swarms and light horsemen though so maybe I'll play a few games.

You're running unit of 1 tomb swarm? Definetly beef that up to 2 bases as they can hold table quarters that way and they also autobreak (due fear) small enemy units/warmachines more reliably.
If the choices come down to taking some more horsemen for whatever reason or taking just unit of 1 tomb swarm, ditch the swarm in that case as just one of them isn't really that good.

it was 2 swarms and 1 6 man horseman unit or 1 larger horseman unit but as it stands I think I may just dump the swarms all together and keep the horsemen and add a 3rd screaming skull catapult!

Aren't swarms 'THE SUK?'.
I haven't seen anyone use any type of swarm from any list since the start of 7th ed when they were made US1.

Well, swarms became worse when they started "crumbling" from combat res like undead but seeing as how tombswarms always counted as undead and crumbled anyway-that didn't nerf them at all.
What makes tombswarms nice is that they cause fear and they can use the "it came from below" deployment so you can have them come up and take out warmachines or get a table quarter later in the game and so on. Kind of like skaven tunnelers.
Considering how the semifinals will have mainly demons/vc and such, tomb swarms may not be that handy to have.
So my choices I am thinking are either another catapult to make 3 catapults or just more light horsemen or a unit of chariots so 8shrug* I'll wait and see what the senarios look like.
