Yes it can give you an extra save but it doesnt work against any insta kills/ AP1 and AP2 so with me boyz against the SM and Chaos guy I play with makes it seem a waste of points sometimes. Is this the same for anyone or am I utilizing it wrong? Feel free to share stories.

FNP is good when you have it on multiple models at a cheap price.
I don't get your rationale?
It's almost the same thing as saying: AP1 and AP2 beats power armor and terminator armor... 'is it really worth it?'.
Let me ask you.
What is the majority of weapons in 40K?
What does FNP work best against?
The answer to both is: small arms.
FNP is a tool to absorb small arms, making the opponent rely more on specilized weapons which are generally less numerous and cost more.
Just because a skill or ability is balanced, doesn't mean it's not worth it.
Some may not care/like/love it, but there is no denying the ability to almost ignore anything outside of those weaponry that bypass FNP.
(All this with respect to Plague Marine usage.)

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

True enough. Haha my original rationale was that it was super hacks. The guys who taught me the game didnt know the proper rule set (that being one of them) for FNP so I thought Id ask on here what people use it for. It went from crazy good to balanced so I needed other opinions

Not to mention that when combined with high T, it makes the unit very hard to get rid of with concentrated small arms fire. Consider T5 FNP. At S4, it 6 hits to score a wound on average. With a 3+ save, that's only a third getting through, so now it's 18 hits needed. With BS4, that's 27 shots needed! Base T5 3+ needs only about 13-14 to get a wound in. that doubles the survivability vs. bolter fire. So tactics like rapid firing don't work so well. Consider two squads rapid firing on T5 3+ could probably kill 2-3 models. With FNP, they are solid to drop one. It also makes base marine CC far less attractive for the same reason.

Considering the fact that your opponent is useing all his AP 1 and 2 weapons against one squad also means that they arn't against your tanks. It's kind of the same thing about taking a LR or a Defi. They may be getting shot at alot, but that means nothing else is.

Until someone points things like Demolisher, Executioner, Earthshacker and Battle Cannons at your precious infantry. Those Cannons are meant to kill Infantry you know

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Yeah, and LRR have those flamestorm cannons that will reduce PM's to only a 4+ FNP, which is pretty good IMO!

Hello Guardsmen, look at your Leman, now back to mine, now back to your Leman, now back to mine. Sadly, your Leman isn't mine, but if they stopped using standard engines and switched to Lucifer Pattern, they could move like they're mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? Your in a battlefield with the Rhino your Leman could move like. Whats in your hand, back at me, I have it, it's the fire control for the Twin-linked Assault Cannons aimed at you. Look again, it's a Deep-Striked Land-Raider. Anything is possible when your Tanks move like Blood Angels, and not like Guardsmen. I'm on a Baneblade. |

By your posting I understood that you have Orks and you are planning to use Mad Dok Grotsnik with them?
That's the best use for them IMO. Nobz can already have one.
T4 of Boyz means that it has to be at least a Battlecannon that kills them, and no SM player is stupid enough to shoot Boyz with plasmaguns if they have anything else to shoot. So yeah, I say go for it [insert proper smiley]
