I have heard several opinions on this. Most of this the same. I was just curious.

In my experience? IG. This is because I converted my army to the point of being as expensive as DKoK. Generally? Steel legion, the only army that costs $6 million to make. [/obscure marine preview reference]

But seriously, steel legion. Or praetorians. Or any old, metal guard army.

Daemonhunters. It's ridiculous how much you pay for the basic marines/terminators.

Nope.
Box of GK: $35
Box of SM tacs: $35

Box of GK makes: 3 GK, 1 justicar, 1 incinerator
Box of tacs makes: 7 marines, 1 rocket launcher, 1 flamer, 1 sergeant

Box of GK points cost: 160
Box of tacs points cost: 170

Hardly any difference there.

Let's compare that to steel legion shall we? It costs the same money, but instead of 160-170 points you get 65 points. Hmm, a little bit worse there eh? And if you want anything other than GL+ML it is significantly more expensive than SM to get different weapons options models.

If you're playing to the fluff, DKoK. They have 8 10-man squads per platoon. What have the Elysians got? Some guys riding around in Valks.

I thought Krieg platoons were six squads strong? Source!

And yes, with the plastic-fantastic Valkyrie Elysians have gotten cheaper.

Im my experience I would say Witch Hunters, simply becuase they cost twice as much as GK and yet are the same points. But it would really be any all metal army.

With IG you don't HAVE to choose the Metal figures. There are plastics available.

I would say Sisters because of all the metal, the stuff that isn't metal is from the imperial guard models which are also expensive. I don't know for sure though I've not looked into getting a Witch Hunter army.

In my experience you should be able to buy a 1500 point army from around £120 to £150 at least you could last year.

I bought the new guard codex and the 1500 point army I'd like to get would cost me £300! It is the tanks and forge world stuff that make the price go so high. I wont be collecting Guard.

I answered Witch Hunters as they're an all metal army. I'd answer IG but I had assumed we aren't including FW. If we are, DKoK. I'd send you my bills having built mine, but I don't want to cry.

Wouldn't Iyanden be pretty expensive? A unit of 10 Wraithguard (ie 1 troops choice) cost 180$ CDN if purchased from GW...

Demonhunters and Witchhunters? Really? Have you people ever priced out an army? I've priced out a large majority of them and Demonhunters are the cheapest. The fact taht you buy like 5 things and have a full 1500 point army is crazy I know.

Orks on the other hand. If you go full out horde ends up being 6 or 7 hundred American dollars.

Iyanden is just an eldar army .. and eldar as a whole isnt that bad

Perhaps if we break down everything into subset armies.. but thats a bit tedious

To make *1* guard platoon you need to spend 95 dollars which gets you 200 points

50pt infantry command
2x infantry squads with plasma/autocannon

The same points can be got for 35 with marines.. Its fairly absurd guard squads dont come with a standard heavy weapon. 35$ for 3 weapons is dumb (and dont tell me "omg you get TONS OF WEAPONS TO CONVERT... No, you dont because heavy bolters/ml/mortars suck and you only get 6 men + 3 stands). Imagine if marine tacticals didnt come with any heavies and you had to buy devastators which only included 2 legs

The fact that there is no real price difference between metal and plastic anymore hasn't really been addressed. I jsut started buying Grey Knight Terminators. They cost $55 american. Regular terminators that are plastic cost $50. I see no difference in pricing here.

IG are the most expensive by far. Not only can they take huge platoons, but they have access to tons of cheap transports, and have a very deep bench of options. I have 11,000pts of IG, and very little of that is duplication. I do have 11 russes, but I'm missing out on plenty of stuff.

Think of it this way: a solid IG collection requires both roughly 100 models in platoons, and 40+ as veteran squads.

I think it really depends on the army build and wether or not you want to do extensive conversions... I dont think theres really a "most expensive army" since It depends on your army list... just my opinion

Not to mention that IG usually work better with a bunch of tanks. Last I checked, tanks are around the $40 range + or -

How about an all Nurgle deamon army? 5 plaguebearers for $22.00 (29.75 for command) are only 15pts each. $55 for a greater deamon. That's quite expensive if you do your math.

I have a few different armies and as a basic 2000 point army I would have to say the most expensive army would be Witch Hunters. The 10 man squads are the most expensive ones out there and with everything metal that goes specifically to them it gets expensive at about 45 bucks a pop when I bought them. If you want to flesh out the squads it cost $4 a model average to get extra Sisters. Then you had to buy completly new sisters for your Heavy weapon squads at $4 a piece.
