Rise from the dead!!!!!
So firstly apologies if you've already seen these but i've done a load more and this seemed like the best place to put them................sorry.

Here's my newest project!
Built from pot pourri, expanding foam, GW moonscape, Fred Swizzle Sticks ( Best find ever ),
Tyranid bits, foam balls, nut shells and based on hardboard.
I'm going to be painting this little lot in flesh tones.
The GW craters will be filled with coloured resin after paint.
Any suggestions before or regarding paint would be much appreciated?!
Questions, C+C, hints and tips welcome!

Very nice! I can't wait to see what it looks like painted. It's never occured to me to use the spray foam insulation stuff to build up rocky areas - I'm DEFINITELY stealing the idea for my board!

The swizzle sticks look amazing for the plant life. It has a very alien, underwater type feel.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Greyish-greenish black is the traditional Alien colour. Doing everything like that would be a bit dull.

I reckon you should select a palette with several unnatural but complementary hues, e.g. purple, dark blue, mauve, and accent it with something a lot brighter, such as an orange-beige, for teeth, spines, etc..

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

First off I sugest you give yourself a pat on the back for some fine work. The ground should match your board base colour and the alien bits the same colour as your nid army, or if your not nid , then a friends nid colours, or if there are no nids you play with... then why are you doing nid type scenery anyway!!!! sorry lost it a bit at the end there.

Feel free. It's pretty nasty stuff to work with. It tends to be very unpredictable and I would strongly recommend having a box of latex gloves on hand. Sorry for the pun!

I was anticipating a slight problem with melting but none has occured, the crowd goes wild, YAY!!!! I used Black Wilko brand Black Satin Multi Surface Enamel for the record.

I'm with you all the way on this. I want it to be quite bright and alien looking(duh obviously) just not too cartoony luckily I should be able to test and respray a few times without losing too much hard edged detail. It would be a bit of a bonus to get it right first time though.

Patted, thanks. I've tried not to include any ground on these pieces. Hopefully I can paint up to the edge in fauna colour and they can sit happily on any table top.
Yup, i've got a nid army. Link http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/215275.page It's MUCH bigger now though.
I'll probably try painting this terrain up something like the guns and see if it looks any good.

To everyone else thanks for the positive feedback and i'm glad you enjoyed. Looks like a big 'thumbs up' for swizzle sticks and toothpits.

The little peanuts hehe, love it.
What about a dark wine colour with dark green, and purple parts intermixed.

I'll see if I can get some pics of the stuff I did a few years back up as an example.

Very, very nice job, suitably gribbly looking for 'nids.

Looks very cool.

Suggestion - to make the larger pieces a little more playable (like area terrain), you could leave some room between the objects for models to fit in.

Thanks's for the kind words encouragement and suggestions, painting hasn't started yet but is imminent.
I've just finished a spore mine from fw it's a really nice and detailed sculpt, washes have brought it to life and I really like the results that I got on it.
The foam has created a lot of texture for me to use so I'm probably going to paint the terrain in a similar style and colours.
Glad i've already undercoated it black

Wow. I can't wait to see these painted up. Webbing and gooping everything together with the foam worked out beautifully. Well, maybe that's not the right word... Either way, it worked It's alien, it's bulbous, it's porous, it's toothy, it's icky... I like it. Get to painting!

Thanks again for all the kind words and encouragement, it helps to keep me focused.
Anyhow, here are some pip pics of the test pieces just to keep you interested.
They really give you a much better idea of the textures created by using the foam.
Paint still needs alot of work, freehanded veins, inks glazes, washes and small pools of water effects/varnish etc.
The sticks are going to be worked up to a red colour I think, any ideas about colour for the pool?
Hope you like.

Yeah, you can get them on a popular internet auction site but not for £2. Check out the rrp on my box, ouch!
I'm not sure if I used one or two boxes but i think I bought 2 or 3 boxes.
There may or may not be a spare box floating around my hobby room somewhere? I think the glue is starting to break my memory, hmmmm.

loving this, it's making me think back to when I saw the originals in theaters years ago.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
