I am pulling my hair out on this.
I want to start a new army, but I don't know who. I am leaning towards the Imperial Guard or the Eldar, but I just don't know. Can someone convince me to pick a team please.
Thank you for the help.

Well, seeing as I play both...

Play Eldar. You'll have loads more fun.

Well what armies do you have right now? I always try to keep my armies different, so I dont basically play the same list with different models.

It's hard to resist those Valkyries, I know, but Eldar armies have looked cool for a long time. It's hard for me to get into the aspect warriors, however, with their sometimes comical paint schemes.

I have about 1000 points of space marines so far, and I am willing to get anything accept Dark Eldar mainly because my FLGS doesnt sell them, but also because I don't like them that much.

I'd opt for IG as a long-term Eldar player.

Eldar face three main problems at the moment:
1. Random game length.
2. Weak troop units.
3. Skimmers got nerfed.

You'll also get more support currently since Guard are still in honeymoon mode whereas there's nothing on the trustworthy wire about an upcoming Eldar revision. And, let me say once again, you can get Valkyries.

A lot of IG players will be hopping off the bandwagon soon and selling their armies. Check the swap shop for some secondhand Guard, as I'm sure you'll find plenty in the coming months.

IG have snipers that can bring down Jesus, and since he's so awsoem that he died, revived, moved a 65 tonne boulder, and then walked to the next maccas for a large chips and a big mek(<intended) Ig is way cooler.!>

g'day mate...

ive got both and i believe that its a matter of what you want from an army...

if it is conversion i would go for IMperial Gaurd, b/c almost all of their mini's are plastic, whereas eldar are metal and conversions dont really fit into their army lists...

if it is gaming i am unable to comment, b/c i love playing eldar and having all the aspects fit together and flow, whereas i play Gaurd more like roleplaying which = more fun in that respect.

if it is for good painting (technique wise) i would advise Gaurd again, for they have more possibilities for different technique use, whereas eldar are more like just fill in the spaces with bright colours

if it is for fluff... i dunno... both work... ive personally built a entire solar system for both...

if it needs to fit into a cost range i would advise eldar... b/c you only need to get around 5-7 units for 1000 points, whereas Gaurd require MUCH MUCH MORE!!!

but personally.... ELDAR ELDAR ELDAR ELDAR ELDAR!!!!

BFTBG!!!!

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Eldar have some really great looking models, but then they also have some really... strange looking ones that I personally don't like all that much.

The only IG units that I don't like the look of are the Catachans, so they, for my money, have more units that look good.

The only downside of IG as has been mentioned is cost, you often need a lot of kit to make up the points, unless you are going for some specialist force that chews up a lot of points (though to be honest, they can cost a fortune too).

Again, as has been mentioned, the IG are perfect for conversions, and they should have a good second hand market too, so you might be able to get some good deals on models.

I don't really look, but I have to say it was quite rare for me to see second hand Eldar stuff in the gaming shop I used to frequent, while they had a constant stream of IG stuff.

Are they coming out with a new Necron or Tau codex soon. How would they be for a next army?

Eldar. Theyre probably the most fun to play as, and Im going to dive into them very soon.

IG is just about numbers and rolling lots of dice. Yawn.

For the Eldar it is really only about the Wraithlord model.

For the Guard I guess it is about them being kinda like a real military force, and they look cool. They look fun to paint, convert, and to play

First, With only 1000 points of marines, I would say do IG keeps with the Imperium thing you got already.

Second, I have both and prefer the variety of my IG, go mass infantry, go heavy tank, go artillery barrage or mix and match.

IG my preference in this case.

Eastern Frontier Exploratores
224th Astra Legion (main army)
628th Praetorian Guard Cohort (wife's army)
827th Auxilia Cohort (ad mech fun)
825th Foderati Cohort (in the beginning army)
1212th Foederati Cohort - Jokaero (cause I like apes with guns)

Then you might want to stick with Guards , if the whole army interests you.
Even if you love the wraith lord model ( i do too ! ) you might get bored of the rest of the army?

If you only have 1k of marines, even if you are getting sick of them I would recommend sticking with them. Get a few more (different) units and try some new combos/ or play bigger games.

I am going to gradually build up my Space Marine amy when I feel like getting some but for now I want something new. I am ruling out Eldar, and the Imperial Guard are on the top of the list. Another army that has been at the top for a while has been the Necrons. What do people think about them? My only concern is the lack of variety.

Necrons... no... definently not enough variety... the only good list would b necron warriors galor and a monolith or 2... also if you wanna play 1000 points then you have 1 lord and 20 warriors and only around 200 points left...

not enough variety and too expensive (points wise.)

I say go IG tanks, numbers and big guns. plus with a large veriety of different unit with the new codex there are multiple way to set up your list. That or stay with your SM

Bits for the bits god!!
