First, let me state that this post is made with tongue-in-cheek and is not meant to be taken seriously. I was reading through the SW codex and came across a few amusing similarities between Orks and Space Wolves...

  • Both have pointy teeth and are warrior cultures
  • Both prize teeth as trophies (especially those of Thunderwolves)
  • Strange critter cavalry: Orks [used to] ride cyboars, SW's ride Thunderwolves
  • Both have "juvenile" troops who are segregated because of their "rebelliousness" and given jump packs

  • ...and finally, the one that really started it all...

  • Fury of the Wolf Spirits summons the two most exalted Thunderwolves from the "underworld", Freki the Fierce and Geri the Cunning. Could these be Gork ("brutal but kunnin'") and Mork ("kunnin' but brutal")?

I can see why there would be similarities.

Also note the Wolf Lord described in the book as loving anything that makes a loud noise. The man loves his Vindicators, as they make a massive boom when they go off. Sounds Orky enough to me!

In all seriousness, though. Orks do respect Space Marines because they always put up a good fight. I could safely say that Orks would hold the Space Wolves in high esteem, if not with the most respect for something that "ain't green". I recall a story about a Space Wolf that fought a horde of Orks, and when the rest of his buddies came to get him, the Orks had built a crude shrine to him and had even went so far as to not loot him.

People can say what they want about Orks, but they're one of the most honorable races in 40k. As well as funny, too!

Very true. Anyone wot putz up a good Fight iz clearly well 'ard! Orks are also likely to let someone REALLY good go, just so that they can fight them again (like Ghaz did to Yarrick a few times)

Scary thought of the day. Progenoids and a Sus Helix. Considering you can transplant a head from one ork to another, they'd probably survive it.

If a bunch of Black Orks from WHFB were to ever get punted into the 40k universe and survived long enough to get the hang of all those "boomsticks", a SW "counts as" would probably come close to doing them reasonably accurately. You could even use the wolf riders to count as Boar Boyz. Actually, now that I think about it, 40k Orkz are scary enough without the thought of Black Orkz showing up to organize them

Aren't Black Orcs basically just Nobz?

I play Orks and Wolves, and love them both. They play sort of similarly, or at least as similarly as a horde and an MEQ army can play to each other.

The funny thing is, Orks actually have the Lowest Model Count legal Army

And Nob Biker lists are 10-20 models

My theory is that the Watchers in the Dark are actually grots; it's a conspiracy.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

WHFB "nobs" are called "Big 'Uns". A "basic" black orc starts out with identical stats to a "nob", except having a Ld 8 instead of 7. Then they get bigger . WHFB orcs have a special rule that causes them to squabble amongst themselves (and do nothing) from time to time. You put Black Orcs in with regular orcs to pull a "commissar" on them (with an axe instead of a bolt pistol) and keep them in line. They're called Black Orcs because their skin is such a dark shade of green it looks black and they consider themselves to be "better" than all the other "greenskins". In 40k terms, imagine an ork tribe where every unit in the codex gets an across the board bump of +1 to WS, S and Ld, 'Ard Boy armor as standard and a more disciplined ("you can't fight if you get croaked on the way to the enemy") mindset. In other words, Space Wolves (or at least very similar).

...wanders off pondering how to sneak this into the fluff Heresy... what would happen if the Adeptus Mechanicus decided to try and engineer a "counter-ork". You could start with some of that old geneseed no one uses anymore (who cares if Orks mutate, right?) ...
