Hi everyone at Dakka Dakka.
What is the next codex after Tyranids?

How often are codices released? Waiting on the Tau codex so I can officially start with this game.

I guess not.

GW releases 3 codices and 3 army books per year.
This year we had IG, Planet Strike, and SW.

For the next year, there are a few candidates that might come after Nids:
Tau, Necrons, and Blood Angels.

Moreover, GW usually puts some restriction on the order of releases;
that is, after a Xenos codex comes an SM/CSM codex.
So the order could be like this:

Xenos - Nids
SM/CSM
Xenos
SM/CSM
Xenos
...

Why so many Space Marine Codexes? Why? I have Space Marines. But there are other things that would be just as interesting. Renegades for example. Necrons! Bring on the Xenos. In my opinion we just don't need any more SM.

It is a self forfilling prophecy. They make more SM stuff, so people buy more SM stuff, so it becomes more popular, so they make more SM stuff!

Rumors say that it will be Blood Angels in March.
That's absolutely great.

I remember hearing at some point this summer that GW said 4 dexes were scheduled for 2010. they were Nids, BT, BA, Necrons, and that DE would fall in there at some time as well.

They have recently changed their philosophy as well from one of we are going to release something at a given time to we are going to release something when it is done. Hence DE who have been scheduled to come out for sometime have been pushed back several times, either because the models weren't ready or because the rules were not up to snuff.

My guess is Blood Angels. I think I read somewhere Dark Eldar codex is done (or mostly done) but they're waiting on the new model line to be finished for a release. They also said in this year's games day Necrons will be after Dark Eldar (or not before DE), or something along those lines.

I think it depends on what model releases they can do. We know with the 'nids that there are a few models that need to be updated (Gargoyles for example) and they're introducing the Trygon.

Dark Eldar are getting more or less a re-do of the entire line, so that could take a while.

Who else is likely to make a new/replacement kit?

All of the "reliable" rumors say BA are up after Nids.

Maybe I just haven't heard the "reliable" rumors then. As far as I've found, people are merely assuming BA are next because of space hulk. Which might be perfectly logical, but has GW ever so much as hinted that BA will be next? I do recall a rumor that DE were supposed to be released instead of SWs, but the SW models were finished sooner, so they released them instead.

The problem with rumors is that they're only rumors. But if I had to guess, I'd say BAs are next purely because they are SMs. But who knows, maybe GW grew some balls instead.

I think codex writers are too much intersted in one thing: the Imperium. I think they should be more imparcial and write equally about all races and armies. For example, Dark Eldar are forgotten.

I'd rather see some Chaos legion/army specific codices than more Codex Astartes.

I welcome this format that GW adapted to publishing new armies.
The sooner the customers get tired of seeing 10+ variation of marine armies every 3 months, the sooner we might stop caring about them.
Then maybe other armies will finally get the loving attention from GW -_-

BoLS to the contrary...

Yeah, totally unlike, say, Dark Eldar, which is pure wishlist and rumor-wise seems to have taken several steps *backwards*:
- the Codex was "done" and just waiting for Jes to finish the minis,
- Phil was writing it and Jes was doing the minis,
- it's been shelved, and
- now it comes out that Phil thinks he's "destined" to write the next Dark Eldar Codex...

BA are next purely because they're the only 40k army without a proper standalone, printed Codex. It's no accident that SW are done now to break the link, after DA broke their link.

Agreed. It would be nice if GW showed a little sack, stepped up, and formally Squatted the DE, rather than pussy-footing around the issue and yanking people's chains with false hopes and empty promises.

im just curious, what exactly about the DE is it that you hate so much? But anyway, yeah, from what ive heard it will be BA next (yay more SM ). Hopefully Necrons will be up soon too.

I am fine with DE as army, but hate the whining.

I blame the players, not GW.

OK, I kinda blame GW for creating the army in the first place...

I support DE because I despise retconning. I agree that the Squats were meant to go and they weren't all that established in the first place, but Dark Eldar are significant to the overarching story.

ok, we are not gonna turn this into another DE flame thread, so lets try to keep it on topic here. We have plenty of other places we can go to bash each other lol.

Anyone know when any IQ forces due?

I really hope they combine Iq / WH/ DH into 1 codex -_-

Honestly, Id buy that dex if thats what they did. I dont even play them, but Id own that just to read it over and over again. I think the Inquisition is cool as all get out.

It's obvious Tyranids are next in line, but Dark Eldar deserve a new Codex, it hasn't been updated in over ten years! Blood Angels would also be nice, seeing as how they don't have a hard-copy Codex.

Well said JohnHwangDD. I'm actually hoping to start a Dark Eldar force of my own, once they have a new Codex and some new models, quite frankly, I find many of the current ones looking a bit too much like Japanese cartoon characters, standing in awkward jumping-ninja-poses

GW is running out of low-hanging fruit to update. There's the possiblity to update the BT for a better update sprue, but after that, the SM stuff is largely done.

The next step would be Power-specific Chaos upgrade sprues for Berzerkers, NM, PM, and Ksons. But this would need to tie to a Chaos Codex release, and it's just too soon for that if GW's not doing Legions as a standalone Codex.

That leaves "hard" projects like Necrons, Inquisition, and DE. Necrons suffer from too few unit types, too much metal, and way too much rules arcana. DE would need a total relaunch, and Inq needs to be reconcepted. Real work required!

Real work?!... Not something GW is particularly renowned for. Not since the massive rules scrap and revision from 2nd to 3rd edition anyway. Everything since then has only been tweaked a little.
