OGRE ARMY

Galf Tradebasher, Ogre Bruiser -- 137

LORDS: 0% HEROES: 100% CORE: 0% SPECIAL: 0% RARE: 0%
TOTAL: 137 points (obviously I realize that this does not make an army... just wait )

INCREMENTS OF WAR:
NOW

So, here is some background:

The Tradebasher Tribe was one of the first to come under the rule of the Overtyrant Greasus Goldtooth. It was a harsh winter when Overtyrant Goldtooth first began demanding payment from the Tradebashers and laid claim to there territory. Having a reputation for ferocity, the Tradebashers would have denied the demands of Goldtooth if not for two things. The first was that The Tradebasher tribe had been buried beneath a monstrous avalanche early that winter, killing nearly two thirds of the tribe. The second, the Tradebashers were starving and Greasus offered food in exchange for the Tradebashers relinquishing the territory that they claimed. Since joining the Goldtooth's, the Tradebashers have proven there worth many times over the Greasus, helping him to continually expand his domain. In addition to marching to war when called, the Tradebashers still occupy a portion of there original territory near the Giants Rocks, along the Ivory Road, as this makes a very convenient place to collect "taxes" on any who wish to enter the Goldtooth domain.

GALF TRADEBASHER
Galf Tradebasher ascended to the tyrancy of the Tradebasher tribe soon after his father was hit in the leg by a cannonball from an Imperial caravan. Though his father fought thru the battle, winning victory for the Tradebashers, his leg soon began to fester and a noticeable sickness began to set in. It was at this time that Galfs younger brother decided to challenge their father for tyrancy. As the duel began, Galf rushed into the arena, shoving his father aside (a feat that without the gangranous sickness would have been impossible) and proceeded to beat his brother for such insolence, until finally his brother stopped moving. Assuming that both of his offspring had thought to challenge him, Galf's father had regained his feet and was approaching from behind. Avoiding the reaching fingers of his father, Galf ducked low and his bloodlust set in. When all was said and done, however honourable he tried to be, Galf found himself feasting on the guts of both his father and his brother, claiming the tyrancy of the Tradebasher tribe for his own.

I really like the patterning in the tattoos and again, your basing is great, each one tells a story all it's own.

Keep the tattoos.

Gotta say I think the tattoos would look better in a very subtle highlighted black/dark grey or a very subtle highlighted dark red/red.

I like the tattoos are great, but I'll second Blackbone's call for a color change. The blue reminds me of the savage orks warpaint.

Incredible ob in the model all around. Your painting is superb and that base is all sorts of cool!

I really like this guy. A whole army of these would be impressive for sure. One thing that I appreciate about this is how solid, and complete the base feels. Its all about how the different elements are blended together, and really feel like terrain. Is everyone in the army (assuming you are doing a whole army) going to get the stripy trousers? Keep it going!

That fellow is almost too realistic! Great work on the skin, especially. The tattoos look nice, but more like warpaint, and less realistic. I'd personally skip them or make them more tattoo-like.

Argh.

Major and immediate criticism from me on the weapons on ogre's belt, the gun and crossed swords are both too small and fiddly to be used by the ogre.

Other than that, they are looking very good.

Not a huge update folks, but an update nonetheless. I have based and primered all 6 of the ogres, and did the skin on the unit boss.

Also, I am pretty sure that I am decided on using the tyrant model from GW as the hero, just because he looks tough as nails.

Meangreenstompa: I was thinking of them more as trophy's then useable weapons.

Scarab: Thanks mate.

Alright, I am guilty, skin is in this week. Did the skin on the ogre tyrant... I will likely go back in and do some blue and red shading in some places (eyes, lips... maybe a cut here and there)...

Man, I love the technique you use for the skin on these guys. It really has a lot of character! I like the guy covered in trophies as well.

Still suggesting you do something different with the tattoos, though. I don't know why my opinion is so strong on those, sorry. They just kinda 'vibrate' too much to me and don't seem to have the same sharpness that your other details do.

I have to agree with everyone that this is some solid work. To bad you are just doing 500 pts.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Well, I figured it was about time to give an update on these guys. Obviously there is still A LOT of work to do, but any suggestions are appreciated.

I have decided to use the empire skull as a stolen motif for the unit, though it will get a bit of modification as it nears completion, to better suit the ogres...

Ok, question time. I did another ogre up and gave him dark brown tatoos... so he is stacked up next to blue tatoo guy. Which tats do you think are better?

Meangreen: Totally agree, about ogres needing stripes and all. Thanks mate.

Very nice, the freehand patterning really set them apart from the typical o.k armies running around. For some reason, makes me think of old school citadel giants!

The bases and overall paint jobs deserve praise as well, impressive stuff man!

Well, for one I will actually answer your question. I think the blue looks better, but if you painted the pattern of the brown in blue, that would be awesome.

Sooooo.... it has been a long time... lol. Anyway, the ogre unit still looks exactly like it did in the last post a year ago Once I knocked out that unit of dwarves and shook the cobwebs out, I figured it might be worth something a bit more serious... so I went back to work on the Tyrant. I think that he is close to being done, but don't think he will be fully complete for about a week or so, so I am hoping to get some early feedback on things that are working, not working, etc... it is the little details that make the difference.

Anyway, enough talk... here are some pics of the UNFINISHED Tyrant:
