I want to build a new army but im not sure what. Id like an army thats more assualt focused but can also do some damage from a distance, but more assualty types.

I was thinking nids but im not sure.

Any suggestions, hints, tips?

What army do you play, and list structure, just general like what kind of units you use?

Space marines are well rounded. they have long range weapons and are good in close combat

Even though the eldar are the most technologically advanced race in the universe, some how the still lose.

Dark Eldar have some sick melee units. All leaders have access to power weapons which always wound on a 4+. (Called Agonizers)
Incubi each have a S4 power weapon + pistol (for 3 attacks on the charge), Sv 3+, WS 5, I 5(!!!) These guys eat Terminators alive.
Wyches cut their targets WS in half, and deprive them of the +1A bonus from having 2 melee weapons. They get a 4+ inv dodge when in melee, The whole squad gets a random combat drug at the beginning of the battle which might give them +1 WS, +1A, +1S, 12" charge, reroll misses in melee. And their leader usually takes an Agonizer.
Reaver Jetbikes can be tooled for nastiness as well.

For shooting, all DE have a BS of at least 4. For 100 pts you can get a 10 man warrior squad with 2 Dark Lances. Raiders and Ravagers can be given either Dark Lances or Disintigrators. Disintigrators can be fired as a Heavy1, S7, AP2 template, or Heavy3, S4, AP3.

DE are amazing at both shooting and melee. I've seen them out-shoot shooty armies, and out-melee melee armies.

You can't spell 'slaughter' without 'laughter'.
By the time they scream... It's too late.

I play tyranids, And I Have an assault based army. I destroy my friends army on a bi-weekly basis. Plus the new codex comes out soon, meaning better units(we hope)

From your description either Tyranids of Orks. Probably Tyranids though.

Well, I'd go for Orks since they seem to be very successful at tournaments.
Nids get a new codex by January.
You can't go wrong.

Orks! Everybody loves Orks! You can tailor an Ork army to do just about anything. Even if you make a shooting army with nothing but shoota boyz, you can still tear things up in close combat. Nids are getting a new codex in January, so if you want to wait for them, feel free. However, Orks are going to have their current codex for a long time, which is a good thing considering it's fluffy, balanced, and competitive.
