Hey Dakka,

Just thought I'd post a fairly useful little tip...

Before you purchase a Ragnar Blackmane model, consider instead purchasing one of GWs 10 man sprues. There are ALL the parts in the box you need to make a better mold version of Ragnar's Model... and you get 9 other guys for him to join up with.

I don't have my camera at the moment (left it at home Thanksgiving weekend), or I'd show you how close the two models were in the end.

We are the wolf that stalks, The stars in the sky And swallows the star-fire
We hide amongst the night, when light is gone the Light is within us
We run the ruin of Fire, in the darkness Foes burn in our passing

Well, Ragnar is a pretty damned old model, and was the basis for a lot of the visuals on future SW releases.

Now THAT'S a great conversion .
Too bad it's not mine, but it gives you some ideas how to do it by yourself ^^!
You'll just need one of the great old wolf headed backpacks, just ask around in the forum.

Dark it was, and dire of form
the beast that laid them low
Hrothgar's sharpened frost-forged blade
to deal a fatal blow
he stalked and hunted day and night
and came upon it's lair
With sword and shield Hrothgar fought
and earned the name of slayer

Sweet! I would however chop a wolf head of the back pack and do the shoulder pad like the old model.

Would be a lot of F'in about but would be worth it.

Whilst I agree; it's not quite the same though, is it?
I mean; the pelts, the chains, the badass belt, the pauldron.

Whilst it's cheaper to assemble your own, it's worth putting in a bit of time and some GS to capture the feel of the original sculpt. Good call though.

IDK I could go either or on issues like that. The one side being I always love the old models something about remembering those first few games many MANY years ago, but on the other I think a converted could be tops if it was done right.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

It is pretty damned close. I agree with Slappywag, Id convert a wolf head into one of the shoulder pads.

Problem withn making him out of the plastic box is he wont look more bad ass than a regular wolfguard (or even a grey hunter/blood claw. Ragnar is a major big bad wolf ass, so I would feel really bad by just making him out of bits that will return in every troop choise unit. But thats just me, and because I know its a ordinary model. Though it looks good it would feel wrong (again, just in my mind, and if someone else did something similar, I would probably think it was great).

Iwas thinking about making it out of the DH justicar, and then add stuff from the plastic box, and use the grim head of the devastator squads sergeant, but its just in planning yet.

Hmm.. yeah, we'll go with it for the moment as the models are all sweet but in future could you check the date of the last post please, ta.

All those latest additions are all worthy of their own threads anyway

Sorry, Red, I was doing my monthly search to see if there was any news on a new sculpt coming out and I had to reply. Mia Culpa.

Fayric, You can't see it in the pic, but I made several changes to the basic plastic to make it look more ragnarific and less rank and file. I added some chains, the sword blade has been lengthened and I added a hilt guard that looks fairly close to the original sculpt. All in all, he'll do until someone finally decides to redo him properly, and once they do he'll just go in the local store's display case.

I have done a conversion from the Space Wolves pack and added green stuff and a couple of other bits, notably the stone from my drive!

I've only really been painting for 6 months properly so you'll have to excuse the quality of the paint job, but I decided that the GW model wasn't animated enough.

Comments welcome. (Apologies for opening an old thread but this place is where I came for inspiration!)
