Hi everyone. Since I just got everything I need to successfully upload pics of my work (in progress or not), so I thought this would be a good time to start my P/M blog.

I'm working on two "armies" that cohabit around the Sour Sea. The first is a night goblin cult that is super squig heavy (I love the little toothy bastards) and the second is a pirate crew that set sail from Tilea.

Here are some shots of the goblins:

Cedrug is the leader of the Cult, with his dwarf staff

Here's a fungal forager that has found a mushroom, thought it's kinda hard to make out

and here's a shot of the boss of the squig hunters poking at a hopper up in a tree

There will be a tree with a squig (not a hopper) in the finished piece, though it will probably be on a different base. (why no shield free arms? those things are time consuming to carve off.)

Here is a shot of the diorama I mentioned

as you can see, it is still WIPed up on a shelf. My work desk is finally coming together, three months after I moved.

Here's another one, a bit closer so you can see the snotling shaman shaking his fist at the muppet janitor

and here is a shot of the squig hunters unit that I have blutakked together, so far.

So, there's one poking into a cave and another getting ready to cast his net on the squig when it jumps out. There will be bushes and trees and things of that nature all over these bases. You'll see.

I'm thinking about carving the bad moon gut plate off of Cedrug and replacing it with a Collar of Zorga thing or a gut plate that looks more like an ogre gut plate (with the teeth). The ogre gut plate is to look like a squig mouth. So far I was thinking about modeling Zorga's collar after the plate that Skarsnik has Gobbla tied to.

Cedrug will be on a larger base, too. Him and a squig or two, and a cauldron full of mushrooms and warpstones.

Let me know what you think... any thoughts on the gut plate, especially.

More to come...

Is this a diorama or an army by the way? Can't wait to see the Pirates Black scorpion has some awesome models. I love the idea of a Squig stuck up a tree reminds me of Goats up trees in Greece!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

It's an army, but it will have a nice diorama display base. That's why I'm doing the figures on individual bases. Though, I don't know how long I'll hold out before getting some rank&file filler bases or something.

And thanks for the tip on pirate minis. I'll check them out.

I started work on the bases yesterday. I didn't get too much done, a few bases are started and one goblin is assembled.

This is a pic of one of the Fungus Foragers cutting a shelf shroom off a fallen tree trunk, and the fallen tree trunk base next to him. I don't know if you can make it out, but there is a bow and quiver o his back and I cut his sword down to make it more of a knife.

Here is the goblin I put together. You can tell by the lack of blu-tac. He is stabbing through the bush, looking for squigs. He isn't attached to the base yet. There will be a netter read to through a net on the fleeing squig, should there be one.

I started a few other bases, but I'm not really happy with how the bush turned out. Does anyone have an easier way to make bushes than using old moss?

Very nice so far, I love dioramas and this can be really busy with the gobbos doing all sorts of fungal foraging.

As to bushes, I can recommend drying out the stems from bunches of grapes.

Thanks. Yeah, there will be snotlings everywhere. It's going to be a very detailed scene. I'm using ogre gut plates as squig Icons, and that big standard with tusks and the skulls in it's mouth as the Icon for the cave of the Great Cave Squig. The shard teeth in it will be warpstone. I'll have to get better at painting on the way there, so I can really make it glow.

Oops, forgot to ask:
How does that work with the grape stem? Is it the bush or a skeletal structure?

... scratch that last thing. I just found a great tutorial on one-ring.co.uk!

Thanks for the tip. It looks great and I'm going to use that method a lot more now. I really like the cork trunk they add. I would never have thought of that.

Thanks again.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Love the concept (thought I too would stop cluttering your army list thread with comments about the models - there is no escape from me! Bwahaha! ).

Loving the whole concept, and now that you have some non blu tac bases started, I can see just how fantastic it is going to be. Great attention to the details of goblin activities.

Can't wait to see more.

Yeah, I'm planning to put a few skirmish sized armies together, the undead of Nagash and some Clan Pestilence monks to name two. That's kinda it though, besides the Pirates and their Dwarf Slayers.

I figure There would be undead everywhere as Nagash resides just the other side of the Sour Sea, and since he deposed the Skaven from... is it Cripple Peak?- there would be skaven everywhere looking for Warpstone.

The Skaven won't just be from Clan Pest. There will be a few smaller clans searching through the hillsides.

It's a long way off yet, but I'm going to put it all into a campaign to build the WAAAGH of the cult as it grows and eventually back up Skarsnik in his ongoing war. Cedrug will remain a skirmish sized character, however, because he is does not wont to leave the holy Squig Caves. He will instead send out Squig Hoppers and herds with a small contingent of new cult members.

So I did get some work done today. I got a jump on some of the Fungal Foragers bases, 20 to be precise. They are far from finished, but I'm really pleased with how they are coming. So, I'll be finishing them off (hopefully) and fitting some gobos to them tomorrow. I need to go collect some more rocks for both the miners unit and the squig hunters.

In the mean time, here's a peak at the bases:

... not all of which was directly related to the little gobos. I had to rearrange my room, it was feeling too stagnant. It worked out well, now I have two work stations and new one has a solid cutting surface!

After I settled my room into place I finally got my fingers green. I mixed up a stick of GW GS and got to work. It went reasonably well for a first time... I finished one goblin and got three well underway. I did mix too much though, and was not working fast enough. I still had a small marble of green stuff when I noticed it wasn't really putty any more. So I smashed a whole into the center and gave it some face plains. I'll make it into a squig!

Anyhow, here is what I focused on: posing the goblins onto the bases. I wasn't really thinking about that a Sat. when I throw those bases together... I just found myself with a few hours on my hands so I started playing around with the rocks I had. I have to dig up more rocks too!

So I started looking at the goblins I had blu-tac-ed together, at their poses. Then at the bases to see which goblin would fit best on which base. I like the way it is working but I do have to cut them up a bit more than I had.

Here's some pics

So, I didn't realize it was on it's side. It is up right on my computer, does anyone know how I can fix that?
This is most of the Fallen Tree scene in the Fungal Foragers unit (there is one more rank and file to accommodate the top of the tree). There will be a goblin or a snotling on each base, as well as some more foliage. It's all getting painted too.

Here's a closer look at what will be an exposed root structure. Notice the hollow down there, for a little rat or something. The goblin's missing arm has a dagger that I chopped down from one of the swords. It'll be cutting the shroom off the tree. He's got a bow and quiver I have yet to attach. That was the last bit that I was trying last night, when the green stuff got hard. They'll be on his back.

The goblin with an arrow at the ready is going to be a paranoid veteran, tripping on some mushrooms he found. So he's posed as if he just saw something and now the trees are talking to him.

Neither of the goblins are glued down yet. I did glue some snotlings down, though. Just three of them in a lovely little scene, preparing a tree for the next fungal harvest. This was going to be a unit filler piece, but the snotlings kinda ran off with it, as they do.

and another view

All comments welcome. I've got te scaly skin

Does anyone have a good tip on securing the dusty particles to the base? I put some glue down and sprinkled dirt all over it, but now a lot of the dirt is blowing away...

Painting more glue on seems to wash the dirt away, and I feel like mist-spraying glue onto it would just gunk up the spray bottle.

Any tips?

I caught the 40K bug, finally. It was the Mek Shop over at IronDog Studios that inspired me.

I'm going to start a Mekboy biker gang... not yet! but soon. I'll probably start work on it after getting a few of the cult's units done (and at least Cedrug, if not all of the command models).

I plan to start with a Mekboy and his Grots, working in a truckstop dinner sort of place. Fixing up bikes and trucks and the like as they pass through. Picking up bits and pieces for his master work from this or that or the other bosses bike. A lot of fast attack and heavy weapons.

The Mekboy and his grots will come first, then some bikers and a kopter. After I get a decent size for the biker gang, I'll add a Warboss in heavy armour and some boyz. I'm not going for a whole army (so far) but a contingent force maybe, a tribe that would join a great WAAGH, but not start one. They are too busy putting things together and gathering scrap to put together. So, it'll be a junk ward gang hanging out at the truckstop.

I'm looking forward to getting into it, hopefully it will push me to work a bit faster on the cult. I haven't had much time lately, what with my regular duties at work and home and finishing my Halloween costume. I'm going as a Goblin Freebooter. I still have to sew up the belt for my sword and pistol. I found an crappy old leather jacket that I cut up to make the belt. Getting a needle through it was harder than I thought it would be. I'll post a pic when I'm all suited up, if anyone wants to see it.

I'll get some pics of the Pirate crew that I have too, with some tidbits about how I plan to alter them. I should draw up some plans for the boat too. It will look neat, tho I'm not sure exactly how it will look yet. It's gonna have a rubberized haul to deal with the harsh waters of the Sour Sea, and a Goblin Hewer on the bow of the ship, installed after the Slayer Dwarfs joined the crew. I've got the three Ogres that will become Leadbelchers. I need to pick up the Belchers box set first, mainly for the cannons and gnoblar, but I have plains stewing for the new GW ogre models.

And lastly, I'm gonna finish up the two cultists, that have bases to stand on, so I can try out a couple color schemes on them. I'll paint up some squigs too. Just roughing in the colors, then clean them up later...

Lets see if I can fit that all in tomorrow. I have a sewing machine to help with the belt. I was gonna make shows to fit the costume, but I think I'll drop that for times sake. Then a little painting, maybe some more basing (right now that means assembling the gobos so they fit onto a particular base) then some uploading and a post or two...

Then I've got an office party to go to :~/ But I'll be dressed up in the goblin pirate costume so it wont be all bad ;P

I picked up a couple more staff toppers to choose from, mostly because I thought it would be fun to goblin up a bunch of dwarf goodies. I think I'll pin them all so the fit on his staff but I was wondering if there was a favorite. I think they are all good for different reasons.

Choice (a: the staff he is already pictured with) is good because it is a runesmith banner... I think. So it already has magic in it's history.

Choice (b: the dwarf warrior standard with the big face) for the larger dwarf face to mangle and put big teeth onto.

Choice (c: the dwarf miners marker) I picked up more because the cult is also a mining crew. So, I figure a Miners marker top would be a good staff for the gobo that discovered the mine. I also have a few dwarf pick-axes and hammers and the like for the goblin miners to use.(found in the ruble of a caved in dwarf mine)

something went haywire with uploading the images. I'll post them later. Sorry...

Ok, sorry about the delay. Here are the options.
Option (a)

Option (b)

Option (c)

So, I might leave it so I can switch them out. I need to gobo them up a bit still, and I should have time tomorrow to put some paint on the first two Foragers that I based. They are all assembled but I need to check them again, for gaps. I'll get pics of them up tomorrow, no matter how much I get done.

I started four bases for the snotling miners, and I started priming the forager snotlings, but the glue gave out on some of the details and I had to stop. I don't have any of he spray primer, so I just brush on GW black. So, some minor basing and priming then I'll rough in a couple color schemes on the gobos. I have't really though about what colors to use. I was going with the idea that squigs are all sorts of different colors, so the squig cult would be using squig leather for some of their clothing. So they would have a wide range of colors in their fashion sense.

But they could use the different colors as camouflage. Hunting for squig and foraging for mushrooms don't always happen in the same area... I guess. I'm going to try different layering techniques for their robes. I do have a pull to theme the units, though, as far as color scheme goes. Maybe the colors will relate to the kind of squigs the units would best be represented by... or something to that effect.

Their skin will be green, lighter green for the lesser, darker for the boldest. That doesn't apply to as far as comparing the races though. I'll have the toughest looking snots be darker than the weedy snots. I will try to save one or two shades of a darker green for the larger breeds of greenskins, like black orcs, fer instunce.

Now of to bed to get a gud nightzleeeeeP

Ok, enough with the this! all these late night posts with nothing but empty promises of time that I don't have to spend on the hobby. :(

I'm just gonna start a new P/M blog once I have some painted models to show you.

One last "on next weeks episode" remark:
I'll be painting my squigs and the few goblins that are in one piece this weekend... at least as many as I can get to.

Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comments

So, I finally started painting and I found a color scheme I like. The only problem, I can't figure what the last color should be.

Here's the cultist that is furthest along (sorry it's a bit fuzzy):

ooo! and their sideways. I'm so ashamed... but I don't know why that happens.

Anyhoo, the idea is they are mushroom colored. I can't decide what the bottom layer of his robes should be though. A darker brown? a lighter color, maybe something that has a bit of a glow to it (like the gills of a mushroom)? Then, of course, plenty of dirt, as they are scampering through the woods and mud and filth.

The squigs I'm gonna paint like tropical frogs and colorful fungus... maybe just frogs.

Any comments, suggestions, criticisms are very welcome.

Thanks Dakka.

So, here are the two color schemes I'm going with:

On the left is the command color scheme. Older cultists, bosses and some musicians will have this scheme.
On the right is the generic cult uniform. New recruits and the more general congregation will be dressed in this scheme.

I think the Squig hunters will be predominantly the red and yellow scheme, while the foragers will have more of the brown colors. The miners will have their own color scheme, but I only have 40 night goblins so far. So, I'm going to make the Squig Hunters and the Fungal Foragers units up to 20 figures, and leave the mining operation to snotlings and a few night goblin runtherds.

Here's a shot of the squig pipe player. He's almost done

Just a few touch-ups and some mud on his shoes and he's done. I think I'll do something more to the horns as well.

Oh, and the insparation for the red/yellow scheme:

I'm thinking a fanatic with darth-maul style weapon. maybe a chunk of warpstone chained to each end of a small stick or warpstone spear head at each end. What do you think?

On second thought, I think all the fanatics will be jedi or sith. The fungal forager's will get jedi and the squig hunters get the sith.

As a special character, maybe the stat line of a fanatic without the instant death/terrain rule and no random movement.

I should have some time to work on the cult again in the coming week... I hope. My schedules changing at work, and my life is quieting down a bit, again. We'll see how long this lull lasts.

I haven't had much time to work on the cult, the little buggers take more concentration than I have had lately. The small bits of time I've had to model, I've spent roughing terrain together for a 40K ork trukk stop army. I'm not sure if I will turn this p&m blog into a general workbench blog or not, but I wanted to post this little cell phone pic as a teaser.

It's the beginning of a grot housing facility for a mekshop at the truck stop. I may have some time in the next few days to work. It will probably be split between painting squig cultists and putting together 40K terrain. I may even get to assemble some more goblins. I'll take some better pics of the grot shanty and the mekshop, too. Yeah, I started putting the mekshop together a little while ago. I've got plans for the towing company's garage that will take shape shortly after I get my hands on a trukk and/or battle wagon.

I'll need to figure out a way to store all this stuff too. With the truck stop getting bigger and big plans for the cult's mountainside, I'm not gonna have much room.

Anyhow, more soon, and thank you all for posting. I'll start working on some gobo-jedi character sketches this week too.

So, I got some work done. Not a lot of painting. Here's the closest thing to being done... besides painting

On the left is the smoke stacks for the mek's furnace. On the right is an ork house I found the template for in the old Freebooterz book. I would have included a shot of the mek's whole shop, but there is still so much to do to it.

No where near finished, and already infested with squig!

Oh, and I've almost settled with using squig hoppers for the jedi. I don't really like the new fanatic models and I can't see a reasonable way to convert them. Any suggestions for good goblin-jedi/sith models would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's been a while since I posted on this thread, let alone since I've worked on the cult. All you necro-shouters can relax, this is my thread.

I did a little painting last night, just base coats on a few models. I color blocked the scenic woods bases that were ready. I wanted to let you see 'em, so you could see what they are... as opposed to a black blob on the screen. Here they are:

As you can see, they are still far from done. But, finally, you can see what's going on in the pic. Two archer goblins from the Fungal Foragers and a base of snotling to accompany them (and lay the ground work for more fungus!). As you read, above, they are just color blocked. I don't think that step is even done, really. I just wanted to let you see them in the light... rather, the trees were the point of this one. It should be clear, now, what and where the snots are chopping.

I've got a base of mining snots ready for some paint, too. The glue on those gits was drying last night so they didn't see the brush, but they're there.

Anyhow, let me know what you think. I have been feeling a bit burnt out on the buildings recently. So there will probably be more updates of painted minis, but don't hold yer breath. I wouldn't want to suffocate any of you.
