What is it? For me it is the GW paints, just because the only other paints I've tried are artist tube acrylics. They didn't work. Although, I may look into either getting some Reaper Paints, or some Formula P3 paints.

I use Vallejo Game Color paints for most of my painting. I use some of the GW Foundation Paints for basecoating, and the GW Washes for washing. The washes are pretty decent out of the pot, but I always thin the Foundation paints down with some water and floor wax (to break the surface tension of the water and enhance the flow of the paint).

I've heard that the P3 paints, while also good, use a liquid pigment instead of a powdered pigment, which may or may not cause problems when used with powdered pigment paints.

Reaper's Master Series also seem to be quite good.

I also use a wet palette for all my Vallejo paints, incidentally.

I use GW paints. Expensive, but I've never had problems with them.

I use Vallejo Game Color and Reaper master seriespaints.
But I've recently been extremely impressed with the Liquitex soft body acrylics. I bought a couple for the hell of it and they are really nice.
I do like the GW washes though.

@Lorek - is it a homemade wet palette or one of the Privateer press ones? I've been fooling around with a homemade wet palette and have liked it a lot.

Where the crap can you get Vallejo in the US?! I can't find it anywhere! That is the only reason I didn't say I was looking into getting them.

I use a mix of Americana and Folk Art. (luna you were totally right about the folk art metallics)
I think when used right they can make some pretty vibrant paint works. And Ive never been a fan of GW paints. Tho the washes are nice, I still just make my own.

The War Store sells Vallejo paints. http://www.thewarstore.com, in "Paints and Tools". The game color line has matches to GW colors (and then some if I recall), and the model color line has colors for military modelers and other paint additives like flow improver, matte medium, etc.

I like the Vallejo line myself, now that I've bought some of the model colors and painted a test fire warrior with them. I still have trouble thinning paint properly, but now that I've started using flow improver and Vallejo paints my models tend to look MUCH better. GW have good metallics though, and the foundations and washes are great, but Vallejo may be my personal favorite. I tried using Tamiya paints and I hate them, they're probably better for airbrushing with but they can't really be brushed on...and I never tried Reaper or P3. Can't go wrong with the dropper-bottles though.

I'm so leet with my painting skills I just use plain tap water. It knows what color I want and where I want it to run.

Paint is for newbs, use just plain tap water if you want to learn skillz.

Artist tube acrylics work fine if you mix them up in media properly.

I use whatever paints I like. All acrylics mix anyway. At the moment I have GW, Tamiya and Liquitex heavy body in my paint box.

I use GW paints now, although I have recently bought a few Golden Fluid. I used to use Americana, Folk Art and Dream Coat, but I have been unable to procure them in Japan. I'd LOVE to get my hands on some Vallejo here, but the distributor, Volks, is Fethed in the A when it comes to responding to customer emails/phone calls and their Website is always Fethed up.

Brushes are also a key component to painting. Currently I am using Interlon Brushes which are a France/Japan joint artistic effort.

Different brands have different strengths and weaknesses (and none of them have a good white.)

I'd have to say Vallejo is my favorite simply due to their superb mediums, like the glaze medium and metallic medium. Those let you do some seriously cool stuff. They also have a very large range, including "neon" paints and other oddities. I detest the dropper bottles, though.

P3 is also good, they have the best paint pots (flip tops that don't dry out) and are the only range with a good pale pink (like GW's discontinued Pallid Flesh).

Currently a mix of white topped hexagonal GW paints from years back (my round ones finally got used up this year!) some of their current bit and I picked up a P3 starter set for skorne (?). Really enjoying using the P3 paints and looking into getting more and trying the vallejo paints.

Brushes I'm currently using the army painter ones and saving to get some W&N series 7. As for wet pallettes I love to blend and really want to get one sorted out soon but using an old white small plate atm that I have used for years now

I use a pretty broad mixture. I would probably use Vallejo, but I have tendinitis in my wrists (the precursor to carpal tunnel syndrome), and the agitation required to mix Vallejo paint is quite literally excruciatingly painful, so I have to pass on them.

I do use Reaper Master Series for most things, GW Foundation and their washes, and the odd GW color that the RMS paint doesn't line up for well (e.g., Boltgun Metal).

My current army (Salamanders) is all basecoated in Tamiya metallic spray (Green Metallic, washed with Devlan Mud), and I've gotten a lot of compliments on the color.

Vallejo. Cheaper (than Citadel paints anyway), don't waste paint and don't dry out as much, more colours, and easier to mix (yay eye-droppers).

I dip my 'nids using Minwax PolyShade; there's an article on dipping here at DakkaDakka.

For larger projects (citadel gameboard I painted), just cheap tubes of acrylic (CraftSmart I think is the name, it's not super high quality but it gets the job done )

I use vallejo paints for now...but my FLGS doesn't stock them so I'll be phasing into GW paints (yes I could order the vallejo paints online but I prefer to support the FLGS and GW paints are tolerable).
