Checking my e-mail inbox, I come across the weirdest thing. For weeks I have been waiting for more news on Nids, but what I saw was Legion of the Damned. All I know is they are an Elite unit. So now I have a question, as I don't play SM where have they come from?

The Legion of the Damned are the mystical 'ghost marines' that have been kicking about in 40K since 2nd ed in one form or another. Basicly they are marines in black armour with flame and skull motifs who appear out of nowhere when the Imperial forces are on the verge of defeat and turn the tide to victory. Then they vanish into thin air. The fluff is that they are a lost chapter of marines who went into the warp one day and never returned (think they might have been the 'Flame Falcons' or something). The last I heard of them in terms of rules was that they deep struck, had the feel no pain and relentless special rules. Oh and there may have been something about opponents needing to take an Ld test to assault as they were scary. Back in 2nd ed they had a single character, 'Sargent Centaurus', who had a skull which could kill models in the same way as the Space Wolf power 'Jaws of the World Wolf', but it might have only been used in combat.
There's an apocalypse data sheet for them on the GW web site too.

In terms of why they are in your inbox, who knows? Maybe its another super secret release like Space Hulk was?

Oh No! At least I won't get sued, like the guy who nearly did for posting one of the new Tau vehicles.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

They were once one of the cool mysteries in 40K - this ghostly Marines that would appear at the 11th hour to save doomed servants of the Emperor.

Then GW revealed them to be a cursed Marine Chapter who picked up a degenerative disease in the Warp that was slowly killing them, so they went all emo, painted skulls, bones and flames on their armour, and basically kill as much as they can before they meet their inevitable fate. Kinda took the sting out of what was an interesting unit.

Some mysteries are interesting because they stay mysteries...

155pts Elite tactical squad with Fearless, Slow and Purposeful, 3+ invunerable and always deepstrike

Tbh it's obvious that they will be producing new models for them as they removed the old ones from sale a while ago, and they are the last thing in the marine codex that doesn't have current models (except for the Master of the Forge with Conversion beamer).

Very much looking forward to seeing the new models

Edit: Just seen the prototypes on Warseer, they are fecking awesome!

In a world gone mad, who is left to fight for truth, justice and all that gets you smashed for under a fiver....

First played 40k during 2nd edition, missed out 3rd and 4th, and haven't played 40k since 5th edition - but still read and occasionally paint

They were officially announced yesterday at the Italy Gamesday; there are pics floating about.

Yes they are very similar to Thousand Sons (can't check for sure as I don't have a Chaos codex as I refuse to get it until they fix it).

Just waiting for GW to update their website so that I can pre-order.

Wow those look nice, may actually have to buy some. How much you want to bet that they are either metal or cost $50 for 5.

I read in the current Spehss Marine Codex that the Legion of the Damneds' saving throw is invulnerable, so does this mean they can't die?

It means almost nothing can ignore their save.

If they roll a 1 or a 2 they still die like any other marine, though.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

I thought that the Tau vehicle thing was a joke. But the thread got deleted didn't it? Maybe it was real. Wish I remembered what they were now.

OK, what this was originally made no sense. I reckon that there will be some rediculous price for them.

'Count As' Yes.
'Apoc. Datasheet' Yes.
The actual SM Codex entry: Hell No.

I'm sort of meh at the models so far.
Though not everyone has the skillz, I've seen some impressive GS, which gives me hope, that if I try harder I can achieve unique and decent looking mini's without forking out more cash than I need to on those specific models.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Somehow I think this is a totally wasted project. I would rather just get the regular plastic marines and paint flames and skulls on them, then spend 2x as much for metal models (which I hate working with) that are still marines but just with extra flames and skulls sculpted on.
