I am possibly looking to purchase this army. I am just starting out on the fantasy side of Warhammer, stat wise how would this stack up? Any advice would be great!

1 high elf lord on dragon (magnetized so that you can switch out the high elf archmage (included) as well, painted)

1 caradryan model

1 high elf hero

1 high elf mage

2 white lion chariots

36 spearmen with two full command groups

16 archers with full command

1 old style tiranoc chariot

10 swordmasters with FC

5 dragon princes

2 repeater bolt throwers

Very solid start, I would advise you to pick up more sword masters though, they get a lot of shooting directed at them. (For a good reason. )

Not a bad start at all - I would recommend, however, finding a couple of more archers to build up 2 units of 10 and a couple of more spearelves to potentially build up 2 units of 21.

Picking up a couple more Swordmasters isn't a bad idea either, as citadel suggests, as well as a High Elf Noble/Prince box so that you could potentially run a mounted Prince/Noble.

I would recommend getting more archers than spearmen mabey 60 archers in all since they have longbows they will be able to hit targets further away and march your spearmen up to get into close combat but mainly after you get some of the other army destroyed from your archers and repeater throwers

Are you serious? 60 archers?

That is just my opinion becasue i personally like the idea that i can out range other players archers with mine and take out some of his infantry before he even gets close enough that i need to use my close combat people, but again this is my opinion

I wouldn't be against this suggestion so much if it weren't so ubiquitously acknowledged that High Elf archers are still over-priced for simple S3 shooting. 660 points is simply too many points to invest in sub-par shooting.

That is a fair and good point is there another way he would be able to have more archers but not necessarily spend as much then or what woudl you say

Repeater Bolt Throwers. 1 RBT >>>> 10 archers.

Nice one.. Strong start to a solid army

36 Spearmen can be used either as regular Spear Men or Sea Guard.. Best of both worlds

16 Archers and 2 Bolt throwers provide a good fire base though 20 Archers would preferable be better to make 2 minimum size units

Personally I wouldn't bother will Dragon Princes, as too many points and too expensive..

Better to buy either
White Lions (being stubborn and free to move through woods) perfect for flanking
Phoenix Guard to accompany Caradryan model and provides solid block of fear causing troops with 4+ Ward Save

I agree buying more Sword Masters, I always put them in ranks of 6 (Unit sizes 6, 12, at most 18).
Keeps fighting effectiveness (12 attacks, St5, Always strikes first)

Hope it helps..

10 Archers in 2 Ranks provides 5 BS4, ST3, shots per turn..
Range 30" means to hits on 4's over 15"

1 Repeater Bolt Thrower provides 6 ST4, -2 shots per turn..
Range 48" means to hits on 4's over 24", but mainly hitting on 3s

What would you rather have?

I appreciate all the feed back, it has been great. And if anyone has other points please share them, because i am still learning. I did pick up the army and hope to field it very quickly. As far as the 60 archers are concerned... isnt volume of fire important in this type of game? To get more shots on target?

A little.. but more towards learning different ways to get similar game effects.. You can take the comment either way.. end result is to help the guy out.

Because he's new to the army. Playing with what works, helps people develop 'as a gamer' quicker and making an informative decision before making any purchases helps him save money.

Personally I prefer taking Sea Guard over Bolt Throwers, as they fulfill 2 roles in the army. Spear men and Archers, though by taking minimum of core units using just Archers provides for more points towards harder hitting Special Units.

Hi,

I think you need some more special choices! Generally with high elves you take your minimum troops and then all special choices.

I think you should definitely go for including the dragon (prince, not mage!!!), the dragon princes calvary, the swordmasters, the lion chariots, two units of 10 archers, two RBTs, and a nice solid block of spearelves in your list. That will add up to quite a large point level already!

A very nice start to an army... just add one or two more special units and you're done
