SO! For anyone who has read this thread before, I have since thrown in the towel. Some time spent sculpting has shown me I will need to brush up on my skills before I tackle a project this loft. However, I will be doing up a diorama to show off the Vossies I have purchased thus far, as well as a few Leman Russ Battle tanks. I will chronicle this as best as I can, given my camera's fickle behavior.

Don't think lesser of me for this, but greenstuff is a pain to use! When I get better, I might give a go to this again, but for now I will stick to painting.

something you could do to make using cadians that bit easier is use them as normal troops (infantry squads) or penal troops (?) whilst letting the 'official' vostroyan models as the vets...

that still lets you scuplt on them what you want but allows for a variation which will possibly be noticed.

just an idea

Just put in my tool order. The order for my Vostroyans goes in next Tuesday and I have greenstuff on hand. Soon enough, I will be able to start and I am looking forward to it!

Here are the tools I will be using:

Dick Blick - Royal Sovereign Clay Shapers

Papa John's Toolbox - Dental Tools

Papa John's Toolbox - Wax Carving Set

That should suit me, along with a trusty Xacto knife and some petroleum jelly (my preference for sculpting).

I am going to try to finish off some commission works very soon and, with hope, that will foot the bill for the Vallejo Game Color Box Set and some spare dropper bottles. I am very excited!

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions before I get working on these week after next?

Now that I am roughly a week away from starting (as long as my stuff comes by this Friday), I will finally be able to start. Right now, I have a list compiled of what needs to be modeled and painted (or both, depending!).

HQ:
2x Company Commanders
8x Meltagun Veterans
1x Astropath
1x Officer of the Fleet
2x Command Chimeras

Troops:
2x Platoon Commanders
18x Meltagun Veterans
6x Veteran Sergeants
4x Infantry Sergeants
4x Heavy Weapons Team (Autocannon)
8x Flamers
70x Lasgun Infantry
6x Veteran Chimeras

Fast Attack:
3x Vendettas (still need to order these kits)

Heavy:
3x Leman Russ Battle Tanks
2x Leman Russ Demolishers
2x Leman Russ Executioners

So, that is an awful lot that needs to be done, but it gives me a variety of list options from 1500 to 2500 points. All of the Commanders and Sergeants I would like to do custom work on, while the basic infantry can be cast from resin. Tuesday, I should be able to pick up the Pig Iron heads I need, so I can begin sculpting on my Cadians no later than Friday or Saturday (though I may try to do a few of my own as well). As for casting, when I am satisfied with my sculpts, which may take a while, I will possibly begin that process. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to do work on any commissions lately, so I will be waiting a few months for my Forge World order to arrive when I do get a chance to order it, so I will need to get my workbench clear before I get cracking.

Found a nifty piece of work from someone over at CMON (came up in a Google search).

http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34140

That gives me hope, because I will be sculpting off a Cadian base. I will probably give the copper tubes and hand-sculpted arms a try with my more elaborate pieces.

Still unsure if I will be doing castings. I was thinking of cutting up the various metal ones, making molds, then using the pieces to add to my hand-crafted torsos and legs.

Thoughts?

Their awsome models by themselves, and I love seeing when people create their own as it makes me feel like that is a REG't from a different noble house. GL on this one mate and look forward to seeing it as it comes.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Well, little did I know how hard this would be. So, I have shifted gears and will do just a basic painting and modelling log of a Firstborn diorama.
