Hunting Glade Guard

I am just making the transition from collector to player and I need some advice on how to make the best out of the models I have.
I have an old edition of the rules, and a current WE army book. So I am slowly getting a handle on the concept of Warhammer.
What I would like to do now is get some advice in order to build an army I can play with.
Here is what I have so far:

A spell weaver/singer (DE conversion) on foot
A metal Daemonette mounted, that I am going to convert into either an eagle or Unicorn mounted spell weaver/singer
A Noble (Alter w/ light armour, shield, bow HOD arrow, and great weapon)
1 box of Dryads
10 metal Daemonettes, soon to be Wardancers

I know that I need more core. would buying the Woodelves Battalion be a good next step?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, I'm not sure! I know Lunahound is also doing woodelves... I'll bump this up since I'm curious what people would suggest, too

The battalion gives you quite a good selection to add.

You get 12 Dryads, combined with your current box that's 24 Dryads meaning you can get 3 units of 8.

It has 24 Glade Guard (Archers), which are useful (I run 2 units of 10).

And finally, 8 Glade Riders, though you generally run only 5 or 6 per unit. I used the spares for conversion.

Thx Daba,

how does this sound for a list:

Wood Elf Noble – Spear, Shield, Light Armour, Hail of Doom Arrow, Rides an Great Eagle – 161 pts
12 Glade guard – 144 pts
12 Glade guard – 144 pts
8 Dryads – 96 pts
8 Dryads – 96 pts
8 Glade Riders – Musician – 192 pts
10 Wardancers - 180 pts

Total: 1013 - pts

Since some people might complain about the 13 excess points, any chance of dropping a Glade Rider?

Or instead (and this is just me, a non-WE player), drop the Glade Riders and replace them with a Spell Weaver / Singer (whichever is the Hero choice) so that your army isn't at only 2 dispel dice w/ no magic to speak of?

Thanx Minsc,

I have not even played Warhammer yet, so I am apprehensive about putting majic into the build already. I kinda want to get a grasp on the basics first.
But I could definatly drop a GR.

I would never run Glade Riders in units of more then 5 Glade Riders. They are a great unit for march blocking and re-directing and you do not need more then the minimum amount of them to do this. A Musician is good for re-grouping after fleeing charges. If you want a combat Cavalry unit, then I suggest you take Wild Riders instead.

I recommend going down to 5 Glade Riders (keep the musician though) and maybe dropping the Glade Guard to 2 x 10.

With the points left over you can put in a 3rd unit of 8 Dryads. (which you should have with the batallion box + normal box since there's 12 in each)

Do WE players use war hawk riders? I never see them mentioned.

I just don't have any Warhawk rider models.

I tend to regard Warhawks as flying versions of Glade Riders. They are slightly more combat oriented than Glade Riders.

Flying is nice, but their combat isn't as strong as Wild Riders, who are almost as fast. Glade Riders can do similar but are Core so don't take up the same slots as Wild Riders, Wardancers and Tree Kin, who all have very different jobs.

I've never used them though, so I'm sure there are some generals who swear by them and use their flying advantage very well.

Hmmm...... When having to choose between WR, WD, and TK the War hawk riders do seem to be allittle less appealing. I just thought that fielding them would be an awesome opportunity to do some cool conversions, and I thought the hit and run rule sounded awesome.

Does anyone have any experience with mounting Characters on Great Eagles? Pros and Cons?
