I'm going ahead with my straight up marine bikers list. It should be fun. However, bikes are expensive as hell.... so i've been ebaying like crazy.
Just bought 8 normal bikes, and 4 attack bikes, for the price of $120 shipped. excellent! normally from GW as list that'd be well over $200.

The ravenwing box is a really good deal too, but I guess if you're not using speeders it would be a bit less efficient.

Well, I was lucky to get the Ravenwing boxes and sell the speeders to a friend who wanted them.
But that is a nice buy, the 4 attack bikes alone are $100 through GW.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

yea, GW pricing on bikes is absolutely silly. $25 per attack bike is just... stupid. kilkrazy wrote:Use of the word 'slowed 'as an insult is rude. Please substitute a less charged term such as 'silly'.

I been doing pretty good with getting WH and WH40K codexes(sp?) (near-mint to barely good quality), daemonettes (the sexy ones), Legion of the Damned and to a lesser extent nurglings, and raptors (new and old) figures at discount on Ebay.

I get so pissed at Ebay because I'll find a good deal and be the only bidder on it and when the time is up on it the seller will take it off b/c they weren't getting the amount they wanted from it. I had 6 chaos bikes and Doomrider that were put to gether and primed (I was gonna have to do some restoration work, but I'm playing nurgle so it wouldn't need much.) For 10 dollars, on the last day it was gone because the guy took it off the market. It happens all the time, so I just look for Buy It Now.

Meh, not my cup of tea,... I rather keep my CSM holding handheld Multi-meltas riding juggernaughts...(though still in WIP).
I don't particularly like Speeders in any of their forms. I've seen some nice looking ones but I would never use the model though.

Haven't had any problems with folks cancelling auctions on me. I've purchased my entire army so far from E-bay - it's the only place that has prices remotely resembling what I think is worthwhile. Think they've broken down into something like:
CSM Assault Squad (5 troops, new) $12
CSM set of 15, including command sprue (New) $18
2x CSM sets of 10 (Glued and Primed) $12 a set
5x Nurgle Marines (old style) and Chaos Lord (all used and painted - needed stripping) $8
1x Chaos Sorcerer (NIB) $12
Abaddon, 5x Raptors, 1x terminator, 10x CSMs, 9x Berzerkers, 2x Noise marines (All in various states of quality, CSM probably trash, rest was stripable/restorable) $14
5x Terminators (Needed to be stripped) $24
Soooo, grand total on the army is something like $100 if my mental math is right (prices listed included shipping, some of those auctions I won for like a dollar, but paid through the nose to ship). Pretty tolerable. Not having as much luck with vehicles, but I'm sure that will pass.
Big thing has been to be willing to accept that you're going to lose 9 out of 10 auctions you bid on and to remember that shipping is part of the cost. I don't think I've paid more than 50% of retail for new product, and pennies on the dollar for used.

I play warhammer for the combat aspect of it, not the modeling, so eBay is awesome for me. The less I have to put together/paint, the better.

I do love eBay deals, but at the same time personally there's so much fun to be had in taking a broken model missing various parts, and remaking it into something good-looking A lot of my Gorkamorka models started life off that way; as half-painted broken models I got off eBay, and now look like a coherent warband =)
That said, deals on new/unmade models are fantastic too. Managed to save 2/3 of the retail price on my Eldar army thanks to eBay/trading forums (should've cost around £300, got it for around £100 in total =D)

If you are patient and lucky you can get some great bargains.
Just keep looking and making lowish bids. Eventually someone will dump a load of anything popular (SMs for instance) and you'll bag them.
It helps to not mind stripping and disassembling painted models.

I think ebay can be a useful tool to grab some rare or out of print miniatures, or to grab a cheap unit now and again; but I would not encourage people to use it to build their armies. I think supporting your LFGS is very important. Now if you only play in your basement and never at a store well then I guess continue, but for people who game at a store regularly and then purchase all of their armies on ebay I think its a bit greedy. I know GW does not make a cheap product but most stores I know are always offering deals on GW merchandise to help customers out. Buying your GW at a LFGS also allows the store to exist so it can stay open to let others come and enjoy the hobby.
If everyone bought their armies off of ebay and the local stores went away, the hobby would die. Now this is an extreme and again I think ebay can be a useful tool, but keep those friendly gaming stores in mind the next time you purchase entire armies off of the internet and then look for a local store to play or enter tournaments in.
