Hey guys, I am both new to the forums (as a poster, long time reader), and new to WFB! I am originally a 40K player.

I picked up a copy of the WE Army book around a week or two ago, and have been reading through it and trying to piece together a small force for semi-competitive play at my local hobby store.

The only army theme I have is that it is quite a dark, dingy force, it doesnt really effect any of the units I am willing to take. I made a few rough draft lists, and this one of the more appealing ones at the moment because it has quite a few different unit types.

Alter Noble:
GW; LA and S; HODA and HOTH
[158]
- I understand this is a fairly common and basic setup, im not too sure about the points worth in a small 1000 point game, I'll have to see how this works out

Spellsinger with 1 DS
[115]
- I know this will leave me fairly vunerable to magic only having 1 DS, and leaves me with practically no magic myself having not upgraded it to lvl 2.

2 Units of 10 Glade Guard
1 Unit of 8 Dryads
1 unit of 5 Glade Riders
[456]

6 Waywatchers
7 Wardancers
[260]

= 999 Points.

A previous version of this list had 2 units of Dryads, without the unit of Glade riders and a few points spare for possible unit upgrades, but I felt like I lacked a bit of speed.

Any C&C/Feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially if you have insights into what has worked for you in smaller points games, or what didn't!

I would suggest cutting down to 10 Glade Guard and adding another unit of Dryads. Dryads are cheap and highly effective, I don't think one unit will be enough. You should certainly keep the Glade Riders, they're incredible flanking units. I would also suggest adding a musician to your wardancers with the leftover points. The rest of the army looks pretty solid, I like the Spellsinger a lot. In my army I went with a Branchwraith for the same amount of points, but she had no dispell scroll which is far more important at 1000 because there won't be that many spells cast anyhow.

Spellsinger doesn't need a Dispel Scroll in a 1000 points game, not that many devastating Magic being cast anyway. I would say, choose if you are going to bring Magic or not. If you are, bring 2 level 2 Spellsingers (one with Calaingor's Stave), if you aren't just bring a Noble (which isn't an Alter because he can't be the General).

An eagle is excellent magic defense as well. You would have to sacrifice your Waywatchers for something else, but an eagle on a sorcerer can really feth gak up for at least two turns. The dispell scroll can eliminate a spell if it gets through, and by turn 3 or 4 you should be in position enough that magic isn't going to hurt you too much. I think two spellsingers is a big sink of points at 1k, sorry Airmaniac, although Calaingor's Stave is very nice.

Two Spellsingers at 1000 points (meaning no Noble, otherwise you will be too Character heavy) will be a very strong Treesinging Phase, which will allow you to dominate the Movement Phase.

Which strong Spell that is going to get cast in a 1000 points game is going to be worth a Dispel Scroll? The only one that comes to mind is The Beast Cowers, but only his Glade Riders can be affected by that, and they can still Flee while under the effect, so no harm done there.

I don't know if your Glade Riders already have a Musician, but they should. Re-rolling Regrouping tests is going to be very important for them, as they will Flee from charges every game.

Lower the points on your general, you need more units.
