I would. Steam powered necrons seem so much cooler..

I think Id make them some madman's invention and un-shoehorn them out of every piece of fluff.

Oh yeah, Mousemuffins' Steamcrons. Those things are awsome. Very War of the Worlds.

Bioshock Crons! :O

Crons could use some variety though, I mean even the Tryanids have their separate Hive Fleets, why can't necrons have separate Tomb world colors instead of just being silver all around?

Only problem I see with these guys is, they don't really invoke the same sense of "terror" that the originals do, and they don't really give the idea that they're a viable army to take on, say, the power-armored Space Marines. Not to say they look bad, but I guess a bit more out of place...

oh,also:
starbomber109 wrote:Crons could use some variety though, I mean even the Tryanids have their separate Hive Fleets, why can't necrons have separate Tomb world colors instead of just being silver all around?
Well, the codex actually says that not all tomb worlds are necessarily colored the same, just most people paint them silver because that's the norm, and it's easy (and doesn't look too bad)

No.

IMO, it looks silly, and pretty much takes a dump on one of the underlining parts of the whole Necron "theme"--ridiculously advanced tech. Then there's the noticeable lack of intimidation, too :p

Thing is, those look like steam-powered robots, not an army of soulless automatons out to harvest me. I prefer regular crons.

Exactly, the change of theme creates a new model, but it is not a necron anymore. As good as those steam-crons look, they are not necrons. Different flavor imo.

I think you'd need to add a variaty of new units to the army before you get my vote, they are awsome models, but how would you do destroyer/flayed ones?

The models looks awesome and I like the colour scheme.

Are they "real" 40k Necrons? no. They are steam punk, and this style is too far from the norm to be acceptable.

However, as steam punk versions of 40k units go, they are fantastic.

My problem with 'crons aren't the looks either (not to disparage steam-crons, they're awesome!)
It's just the Necron codex. They desperatly need an update, immediatly after DE!

What was that animation coming out...9...yes that it, the one with 9 little puppets that have come to life.
For some reason that was the first thing that came to mind...stick with the originals.

Mouse muffins Necrons are awesome. There's nowt wrong with the current Necron models, but these are even cooler. 40k could use a bit of steampunk.

I'd keep them similar to how they look now.

I'd smack the C'Tan out of the universe, though. Awful fluff...

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

I wouldn't say that, imagine staring down an army of clockwork autamotans, belching somke sparks and fire from their backs, the sky dark from the oily black smoke they are discharging. Every time one manages to die, it reassembles and gets back up, all the while starring at you with white, soulless eyes....

The necrons are just as cool and badass as they are right now. I'm sorry but necrons should scare the gak out of anyone if they are stoically marching forward.

I think my Death Guard would have a nice laugh if they were sitting in anticipation for a real fight and those steam Cron showed up instead.

Nope. Regular 'crons look better than steampunk IMO. Also, steampunk has no place in the Grimdark. Those good be WHFFB 'crons but the TK guys would be upset.

Cool conversions. Even digging the the steampunk aesthetic as much as I do, they don't do it for me for several reasons:
1) Too much brass. Why do people ALWAYS use too much brass? It's not the only material in the universe!
2) Implausible design. Basic form should follow function, THEN you can embellish. Pistons where they shouldn't be, nothing where they should. Massive, useless cog on the back.
3) C3P0. Who gave that ladyboy a gun and a hunchback?
4) Wrong aesthetic. Maybe I could see them fighting alongside a warjack or some gas masked trenchers in a different game setting, but they have no place in the grimdark.
5) I dig 'crons as they are. If you had said "Hey, look what some guy did to a necron model as an artistic experiment, otherwise entirely unrelated to the 40k universe and hobby!" I might have been more receptive at first glance. But these guys replacing the sleek-metal-skeletons-of-glowy-green-death? No thanks.
