quick pics to show the work ive been looking at:

So, with that out the way, ill move on to the topic at hand.
Recently ive taken a pretty big interest in non metallic metals are the way people use lighting sources to paint it.
Now, the sigvald model is great, because i plan on using gold armour on a model for this, so its a nice guide to work by colour wise.
(the calgar model is amazing and won gold in the open BTW)

What i was really looking for is any guides / tips or advice in how to build up the colour layers to get this looking right on a model, without it looking just a plain off-ish brown colour.
Obviously i will have to work out a lighting source and how it will lay on the model (actually done this so far) but now it comes to starting the model, this is where im stuck.
A quick google search pulled up tons of guides, but not any that were of much use to me.

All in all, starting colours to work from are something i lack, and after alot of test runs on models, i still cant find one thats good to work from, any ideas please?

I will appreciate any and all help
