Long story short, i am a BA player, but im getting tired of the colour scheme and need a slight change.
I was planning on going with a basic marine army using the vanilla dex instead of my BA PDF lol.
Just thought a new colour and new units / style could make a nice change and keep my interests.

What im looking for is a style of army from the vanilla dex that allows me to stay CC heavy, but still work well.

While im not wanting to include the usual characters in the army, im wondering about shrike, as him leading some assault marines could do fine as a base.

I was also wondering about scouts.
Being a BA player, i rarely take them due to them being an Elite choice, pretty expensive for what they are, and not many options.
However, vanilla scouts are a little weaker, as BA scouts tend to have marine stats with a 4+ save.
Are they too fragile in a unit of 10 with pistol + CC wep?

Failing these, any quick rush CC style armies available?

Character wise, i will be having a chapter master lead the army (converted)
I dont really want any special characters in the army (especially vulkan or kantor) however, i still have a soft spot for shrike.
Any ideas?

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

I dont think its possible to do a genuine Assault army with the marine codex, you could try but it would fold the moment it hits a rock.
Some things to keep in mind about marines is that the best units in the codex are cheap and can do dual roles efficiently (Speeders, Dreads, Tac marines, Predators).

For a shrike based assault army, Thunder shield terminators will most likely be your best bet. Mix in a lightning claw or two and you have a core that threatens your opponent turn 1. (You attach him to them for infiltrate + fleet)

HQ
Captain Shrike 195

Elites
Terminator Assault Squad, 7x Thunder Shields, 1x Lightning claws 320
Dread, MM, Drop Pod 140
Dread, MM, Drop Pod 140

Troops
Tactical squad, Flamer\MM, Rhino 205
Tactical Squad, Flamer, Drop Pod 125

Fast Attack
2x MM\HF Speeder 120
2x MM\HF Speeder 120
2x MM\HF Speeder 120

Heavy Support
Predator, AC\HB 85
Predator, AC\HB 85
Predator, AC\HB 85

Total: 1740 Points

The Terminators are the core, You support them with the 2 dreads that land turn 1 (Keep the other one empty, you could call the third one down empty or drop it in your own deployment so it gives the tac squad cover)

The speeders are your Main AT, they should move fast to cover the terminators\Dreads and give your opponent a headache by using them to funnel his units towards the terminators or To block their movement.

And the preds are your main Anti transport\Hoard (Avoid shooting the speeders at low value targets like transports untill the enemies Main tanks\Threats are dead.

Thats a pretty average list. It each unit (barring the terminators) can handle crowd control or AT, That many terminators and Speeders at your door should put your opponent off giving you an advantage, and most important its mech (Which wouldnt really be doable in a pure assault army)
