Ultramarine Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control

It's christmas and i am short of money and have a friend with no terrain.

He likes my terrain so i decided to make him weathertop.

Ok so i started by building up some foamcore as a base.

The diameter of the main ring is 10".

We made the steps by cutting small bits of foamcore so they could line up against the ring.

Here are some pics.

The pics work.

Stage two will be coming shortly.

Anyway this is part two.

I used a filler of some kind to make the rocks.

Page three will be here soon

Wow ! I'm proud to say I would like that as a christmas present !

Please , make more .

Btw , i think the filler your using is the kind they but on cement in some cases . If that it is be warned , its quite fragile for impacts once its haredened ...

wow I love where your heading with this. ATM the filler is kinda overtaking the piece it would seem and doesnt have the overall flow that a lot of rock formations do, but that said I think it is pretty cool what you are doing for your friend.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Why thank you.

But the filler will look smaller after its painted and when i put the columns on.

Your right does look a little smaller, may I say though you may want to screw it into a wooden base. This will allow you to go flush on the bottom as well as prevent warping. Just a thought. Looking great though!

I think Empchild means you cut a base of wood to the outline of the bottom of the model.

Looking very nice and once was sprayed black definitely looks a lot neater!

I started painting it

I did a few drybrush coats of dark grey then in a few spots i put in some greeny stone to represent foliage growing on the rock.

I also painted the main circle and stairs in a colour called stone.

No pics though :(

CoD6 is pretty cool lol

Anyways, to modeling haha I actually like it as black The rocks already look like they have depth, it almost looks like cooled lava, pretty gnarly.

Um .. I visit lava fields every now and then , since they are practicly just outside of town , and cooled lava is either red(in GW palette kinda like red gore..) or kinda grey-ish like this(please note there is still some red pointing out there..)

But you'r right about the fact it already has a little depth in it

Oh it looks a lot better with paint

Now if i could make it look like that cool lava then i would be very happy with it.

Simple

Put sand over it - Paint the rocks red and the sand 1/10 black codex grey with black wash

That should do it

Pardon me, but it does look like Obsidian Igneous rock. Thank you for pointing that out though, I did not know there were that many types of rock formed from cooling lava.

So you are going with the lava feel then. What types of utensils and supplies are you going to use?

YEEEEEEEEEES! That is what i wanted...

Anyway i have to give it to him tomorrow :(

I really want to keep it but i will make a 40k version.

I need to add some rubble and static grass.

I made some columns though and they look very good.

Ok so thats about it

BYE!

P.s. i might post one of these for a 40k version.

Ok i didn't have to give it to him yesterday

Now i added some columns and a portico to it and gave it another coat of paint.

I portico is stuck onto the arena but the columns can be removed.

Well this is it, almost done.

Oh and these are the columns

Wait i dont have them so i will post pics later bye!

Oh and please comment

Looks good.
As for ruin colors, maybe a shade of grey that is a bit paler than the rocks, but looks like it could have been quarried nearby.

For my High Elf whenever there are pillars on bases (e.g. the dragon base) ive gone for a grey start, progressively mixing white into codex grey and drybrushing each mix, and then when ive reached about quite a light grey but still not close to white i drybrush bleached bone on everything and highlight with a 50:50 mix bleached bone and skull white. ive found it gives a really nice finish, and a rather uniqe colour mix between the grey and the bleached bone.
