So I've decided to delve back into the world of Warhammer Fantasy after MANY years of 40k alone. After much mental strain and anguish trying to decide on what to collect, I've determined High Elves would be the way to go. I figure I'll pick up the battalion box and some Swordmasters (because really, Swordmasters are awesome). I know Silver Helms arn't the greatest but I need some sort of cavalry and well, they come in the box so why not? This list isn't meant to be super competative or anything... but I don't want it to be walked on either. Since I haven't played WHFB in a long while (and never at this points value, actually) I don't know how effective magic is at 1k points and thus was considering switching the mage out for a noble and stick him in the spearmen unit (for 3 ranks of 7).

So if there's any suggestions you may have to make this list a bit more effective, then please post!

Everyone in warhammer Fantasy fear swordmaster once they are in close combat.

However with low toughness and average armor , 10 of them will be finished off rather quickly :x

I'd recommend proxying/converting the Silver Helms to Dragon Princes - they'll serve you much better than Silver Helms.

Yeah I was going to end up using them to the effect of Empire detachments since it's such a small unit. Anything else would probably just waste their abilities

EDIT: I actually have some Dragon Princes, hehe. I will do that since I will then have not only a better unit, but still have cavalry. I love bits boxes!

EDIT 2: So that leaves me with 27 points. I could switch out the mage for a noble and put him in the spearmen and take another Dragon Prince. Or I could just add another spearman and get a mounted noble. The lack of magic if I do that concerns me though.

@1k there's not too much magic going around. 1 Lvl2 should be enough.

Get the Skeinsliver - +1 to your roll for First turn. If you're lucky, you can get +2.

Jin you do love that skeinsliver haha.

I have been trying to go without it, but i have also been using combat heavy lists that dont require going first, sometimes i even go second!

Hmm at first I wanted to make all sort of suggestions, but i held my tongue cause you have a battalion set. So what about finding a way to get another dp, and maybe give them the warbanner. Perhaps drop some archers. At low points 6dps with +2 combat res will go through a lot of units.

War eagle would be nice addition as you will get machine hunter and march blocker thats just what this list needs. Also dont really use silver helms. Arches are taken in units of 10 or 12 at max. Mage is fine but in what unit is he going? I think there really are two options: spearmen, archers. Choose wïsely.

Death korps of Krieg 4000 pts.
FoW germans 5000 pts.
BFG Imperial fleet 2500 pts.

Yeah, I'd take out 6 Archers to make room for more Swordmasters.

Plus, do DP's really need the plain standard? A Magic Standard is understandable, but a plain regular standard could be used to buy more items for the mage.

I usually play at 2k-3k with 2250 being our norm, and we only have 1 high elf player, but here goes:

1) Silverhelms terrible, but I think this thread has given you the general consensus about them.

2) @1k magic is pretty much non-existent. Since you can't take a lord, outside of some random stuff like lizardmen, you can't get above a Lvl 2 sorc. Which means most higher cost spells won't be happening, and the average army is sporting just 4 on average power dice.

3) The eagle seems to be a strong way to fly around march blocking units and going after people's arty (at 1k I doubt you will see much though) or picking off lonely heroes.

@tiekwando - it's one of the few good items of the list, and something that can be tossed onto a unit champ (conveniently fills up the 27 points he had leftover). And remember, winning that roll lets you choose to go first or second. Regardless of whether you want to go first or second, the Skeinsliver lets you have just that much of a better chance of having the turn you want.

@anticitizen - drop 6 archers and trick out your mage. A lvl2 at 1000pts is not too shabby. Maybe a lvl2 with Silver Wand and Power Stone.
