How is a plasma cannon affected by the Gets Hot! rule? Because the rulebook says for Gets Hot! weapons, "If you roll a 1 to hit...." but a plasma cannon is a Blast weapon as well, and for Blast weapons the rulebook says, "When firing a Blast weapon, models do not roll to hit..."

There are just three simple rules to follow: If I charge, follow me. If I retreat, kill me. If I die, avenge me.

You roll the scatter die, two dice for scatter distance and another die for gets hot (it helps if it's a different color). If the gets hot die comes up a 1, then the plasma cannon fails to fire and firing model takes a wound. This does not apply to plasma cannons on vehicles.

Or walkers, since those are a little different from vehicles. And dont be afraid to use plasma weapons, because its only a roll of a 1, and that rarely happens. Its easily a "benefits out weigh the problems" kind of weapon

Wait, you only roll 1D6 if you haven't moved, right?

No you always roll 2d6 for scatter. For most weapons you then subtract the BS of the firing unit. So normal marines shots scatter 2d6-4 for an average of 3". Barrage weapons firing at targets they can't see scatter the full 2d6.

I always roll for overheat first and then for scatter.

Actually it happens one in six shots, or 16.6r%. So, often enough. Though it does seem to happen more often when you really need it to take out your opponent's last SV2+ model sitting on an objective for the win....

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

Says who? i roll scatter with all the dice at the same time but it annoys me when somone rolls the scatter die first and then the distance..... I Roll the overheat first and seperatley because it has nothing to do with the scatter.

I like them too, just hate when they overheat and you just happen to roll a 1 or 2 for Armor Save. But love the Str7, Ap2 Blast, especially against Necrons and CSM!

I get plasma on whatever I can for SM, but no pguns or pistols for my guard, too weak, and WILL die from overheat.

Except Armoured Sentinals, 75 points for a walker w/ a plasma cannon is nice.

I take plasma on everything MEQ

I only use plasma when i almost have no chance of overheat like oblitorators and plague marines, my PMs ALWAYS have one or two plasma in them.

Huh?

Walkers are vehicles, and therefore immune to Gets Hot.

Huh? Plasma still wounds if you fail the save so it's an even worse idea for pricey plague marines who still die on 1/6*2/6 or 2/36 times.

Unless feel no pain works for plasma...

With MEQs it is not as bad of a problem as you think
1 in 6 Shots "Gets Hot"
So in one Turn i may have 3 "Gets Hot"
1 in 3 may Fail
So over the corse of 5 turn game by the odds 5 losses.
However
Each Turn I fire 21 times
14 Hits
12 Kills
Over 5 Tunrs 60 Kills, not that I get that many if you include Cover Saves and Inv Save, but you get the point.
