ok I apologise for this being short but ive already typed this whole thing up once and firefox crashed so i lost it. but basically this thread contains the iamges of my Dark Angels so far im looking for painting critisism. and suggestions to complete my army.
my tactical squad (my 1st ever painted squad):
assault squad (2nd):
dreadnaught(5th):
chapter master(4th):
veteran squad(3rd):
WIP Rhino:
i apologise for the bad images.
I also have the battleforce (thats where the rhino came from) and an extra scout squad so on top of all the figures in the images i have another 10 man tactical squad, 5 man assault squad, 5 man combat squad and 2x 5 man scout squads
so any suggestions for my painting? or to complete my army? they would be much appreciated.

They all look very nice and painted (except the rhino) and look very good for your very first squad(s) but are they your first overall squad or your first dark angel squad.

Cool.
What is the IP for?
What brand is your cuttingmat?
Why haven't you used the tophatches for the Rhino?
Will the Rhino be painted?
What is the round brass-looking object in the background?
Is that a speaker with the little green light?
Too bad the label on the black thing is so out of focus. What does it say?
Oh, you wanted me to comment on the Dark Angel models. Next time put your model on a white piece of paper and use the rhino to stand it up behind the models.
Nobody cares about you cuttingmat and computer equipment.
Nice use of the DA wings on the Veteran though.

@ Topic:
They are pretty darn well done for being your first painted minis ever.
I would suggest re-painting the 1st Squad's Stg. to green as well, making him red only makes it feel like I'm looking at space Santa and his little space helpers
Is it a wash that have helped you achieve the nice tones on the tan shoulder pads or are you already adept at blending?

Seconded.
These guys are looking pretty great, especially as they are your first go at painting models.
A few quick tips on taking pictures to help with the slightly blury images:
1) Lots of light - the more you have (and preferably the whiter) the better. Even if you do nothing else with your picture taking, this will dramatically increase the quality.
2) Don't put the camera too close to the model - most cameras will have trouble focusing at such a short distance. Move it back a bit and use the computer to just cut away the bits of the picture you don't want.
3) Rest your camera on something - movement blurs pictures, even a small shake, so if possible rest your camera on something when taking pictures.
4) Use, as suggested, a sheet of white paper (or several) to form the background and floor for taking pictures of your models - It will distribute the light better and generally just looks better and more professional.
Hope these tips help, keep up the good work

Pretty good altogether, although I would suggest adding some highlights to armour and tank edges possibly - I'm not much of a painting expert to comment.

I think chest eagles would all benefit from gold color.
The bolt metal ones on the Tac Squad is clashing with similar color from their bolt guns.

Thanks for all the tips everyone.
@Müller: Ive been debating repainting santa but youve just convinced me to do it. and the shoulder pads are a wash although i did try blending on one of them and it turned out almost identical but im not consistant enough to do it on a full squad yet.
@LunaHound: I see what you mean about the chest eagles clashing with the bolters. tbh i never noticed it before but i didnt have gold when i painted them anyway so im sure they could do with a touch up.
@SilverMK2: Thanks for the photo tips. I do have a tripod (well when i can manage to get it back off my cousin)
does anyone have any suggestions for the rest of my army?

How did you do the gold on the dreadnought? it looks really good . Normally i would suggest wash to give it more definition , but im worried it would change on the gold's brilliance.

I meant i didnt have the gold when i painted the tactical squad i got it when i bought the assault marines. and i could always paint over it if the wash makes the colours look off. although like you said the gold brilliance cant be tainted lol.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

They've got silver eyes honestly the eyes need doing properly but i wasnt prepared to ruin the models with the eyes when i wasnt capable of doing the eyes justice if you get what i mean.

Try using the Baal Red wash on the silver eyes. It will tint them red and be bunches easier than repainting them altogether. Also, it'll be just a bit different from all the other red-eyed DA'a running around.
PS: are your dark angles acute or obtuse?

Oh sorry. i prime in black then just but 3 thin layers of shining gold on it. a watered down badab black wash and then alot of gryphonia sepia wash and then dry brushed with shining gold to bring out the highlights. (on the dreadnaught that is) on the assault marines it was just shining gold then badab then gryphonia.

Some of the green looks a bit bright, that could just be from the lighting or camera angle but for example on the dreadnoguht it does look a bit bright. Apart from that I think they're very good, perhaps I can even steal some ideas from you for my DA army .

yeah the photos are wahts affecting the green. my lighting sucked tbqh. but i wanted some opinions before i went onto my battleforce. and i have no problems with you using any of my ideas. im going to get some green stuff and start some proper cuctomization work too.
