Subject: What is the relationship between the Eldar and the Dark Eldar?

Kinda in the topic really,
I know that DE will always love to capture a normal Eldar for torturing purposes... but is the hatred as deep as between loyalists and traitors in the Imperium? Will Eldar actively seek to attack Dark Eldar forces? Or do they just view them as an unfortunate reminder of their past that don't really do much to harm them? (I mean, DE are more likely to just attack humans, right?)

WELLLLLLLLLL, that is touched upon in multiple levels honestly. The DE and Eldar are both cousins as stated, and were at one time the same. When the great fall came some as shown did survive, and out of those some choose to stick to the ways of lust and what nots. They then went and formed together on the world of commoragh(or however it's spelt) and thus you know have the DE. This is of coarse the very basic explanation of it all.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Hrm sorry, I guess I phrased the question badly:
I know of the origins of the two races, and I know quite a bit about them... but I mean, what is the relationship BETWEEN THEM like? How do they view one another?
Will, say, a bunch of craftworld eldar engage a dark eldar raiding fleet if one is sighted?

Well Eldar view the Dark Eldar as those unfortunate enough not able to resist giving into their temptations while Dark Eldar view their craftworld kin as misguided who don't indulge into their true nature. As seen in the planet strike book they sometimes work together.

In the old Allies Matrix, Dark Eldar and Eldar were neutral towards one another, as opposed to overtly hostile or allies.
I'm pretty sure the Eldar pity the Dark Eldar, unable to resist their baser desires.

Actually, the allies matrix has both CE and DE as Distrusted allies - not neutral. The DE are even distrustful of their own side.
Distrustful means they only fight together against a common foe, or are simply attacking the same place at the same time.
The DE are the remains of those eldar from the pre-fall days that were not in the epicentre of the psyclone that wiped out their empire and the closest the current day eldar get to being like the original pre-fall eldar.
Some CE pity the DE.
Some HATE them.
The Harlequins see them as simply the other side of the coin from the CE (and themselves as the edge of the same coin).

Also, Eldar don't act out of passion as much as humans do. While Eldar definitely hate Dark Eldar they consider long term effects of their actions and are more likely to attack DE if the Farseers see that it will benefit them, rather than to simply act out aggression.

They don't hate each other. They really have no reason to hate each other. Nor do they have any reason to like each other. But they do have common enemies. They both remember and hate the Necrons, they both hate Slaanesh. (Eldar hate him for annihilating their race, and to DE, Slaanesh = hell. Avoiding him is the reason they torture everybody.) They don't really care about each other though. But neither cares what the other does to the other races of the galaxy.

They will work together if the Harlequins tell them to, though; Harlequins are drawn from both Eldar and Dark Eldar, and while much of their equipment seems drawn from the Eldar, some of their weaponry is unmistakably Dark Eldar in origin. Razorwire that unfurls in the bloodstream of the victim and kills them from the inside? Who else comes up with stuff like that? And since the Harlequins are better in the webway than DE, they have plenty of reason not to piss them off. I'd need to dig out the old codex to find some of the other stuff.
I think there is a fair degree of pitying the other, and considering them misguided fools. Which doesn't stop them from killing each other, but generally not if there is any greater threat in the area. Because eventually, some of them might see reason...

Who wouldn't distrust the dark eldar? Craftworld Eldar are more likely to work with Dark Eldar than any other race because, despite the distrust, they are the same race. All Eldar are extremely racist, as much so as the imperium. (despite some pretty god awful fluff to contrary, look to the codexes, not CS Goto) Craftworld Eldar would rather see a billion humans die than lose one eldar life. CE and DE have the same goals. They both want to live. They both hate chaos, and see all other races as little more than base animals. The Craftworld Eldar left their homeworlds long before the fall, their farseers saw it coming. The Dark Eldar saw it coming too, and escaped to the webway before the eye of terror destroyed them. The Dark Eldar were those that remained after the CE left but also were on the fringe of the empire and had time to escape. Its not like Loyalist and Chaos marines where the two are arch enemies. Harelquins live in both societies and often work as intermediaries.

Hey, DE once where all Eldar. As some people know after Eldars 'Fall' some Eldar survived that fought and ran away formed a new orginization. One of the people who fought in that battle was the old leader of the striking scorpions called Alhara ( or something like that ) ran away and created the mandrakes. They are anti striking scorpions. GW have gave no clue about it but i think its true as many people have gathered clues. The thing i dont have a clue is about is why do Eldar hate Necrons so much ?!? WHY DONT ALL THE ARMY'S JUST BE NICE TO EACH OTHER !!!

Couple corrections: Eldar were once all DE, until the fall. Ahra is the Dark Father who used to be the phoenix lord of the Striking Scorpions but now he trains the Incubi, (note the scorpion tail-like gun on top of the Incubi Tormentor Helms.) not Mandrakes. Karrandras took over, and they hate each other. According to the 5th ed rulebook, they fought each other for like 17 days or something like that.
Mandrakes are the insane, cannibalistic DE that stalk Commorragh's streets, blending with the shadows. They don't really have a master.

Conversely, in Shadowpoint, the Dark Eldar have no compunction about attacking an Eldar flotilla, and the Eldar have no problem killing Dark Eldar in spades. Nothing says loving like an Archon getting the beatdown by an Avatar. Nice!
