Hey all,

So it seems that Minis can get "outdated"... I mean, I can't look at the mkI 'Thunder' armour without laughing (were Space Marines ever really sold like that? Yikes...) or to use another example, 1d4chan regarding the Catachans: "Look, it was the 80s, alright?" Now I guess I can imagine the Catachans looking "cool" right after the movie Aliens got released... y'know, since they're half knock-offs of those Marines and Vietnam vets... but today they look sort of silly.

Anyway, my question is: Does Dakka think that any of the minis we consider acceptable today might look silly in the future? Unless military technology advances I can't imagine the Cadians ever looking ridiculous, sure they look boring.... but not stupid. Or the Space Marines? Are they based on a style that we find in present culture today? Or will they always look good? I guess the Thunder pattern did have basic marine armour (under that ridiculous helmet).

Thought I'd give the whole 'Blogger' lark a go...
-Cadian 812th (rotting in a cupboard)
-Dark Angels 3rd Company (in disfavour, eBay?)
-Irun'Mahn (pretty and deserve love; why aren't I giving them it?)
-Draigo 'n' his Merry Band (to be continued) - How to magnetise Grey Knight strike squads' two-handed and special weapons
-The Maggot Host

The outdated design is generally acceptable.
But the weird pose they all have is a major turn off

Beaky marines forever! Giant Slaaneshi crab claws and hemispherical predator turrets! It's okay for people to wear pastel colors!

Edit: I appear to be the victim of automatic double post lag. And then it wasn't. And then it was.

They look pretty cool up to the beaky one (I like that one the best, all my sergeants are beakies), then they just don't seem as good anymore.

Ah well the mkI is on the far-left of that picture... nobody else find it a tad silly-looking?

And sure, I love beakies

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I have 60 identical gretchin, all sharing the same pose from an earlier edition....

If you think I'm going to spend $2.50 each for a 3 point model to get something new and better looking you're nuts. =p

Nope, they weren't. MK6 is the oldest armour sold in bulk. The earlier marks were curiosities only with only one or two models each.

I like to put 1 or 2 of the old models into my armys just for fun. I have been playing since they first came out. Back when you had to make your own tanks and such

when it was just one big rule book and now more

Lets have fun

Sculpting quality aside (that at least has improved leaps and bound over the years), I very much like the mkI armor. I wish they (or forgeworld) would make a pre-heresy conversion kit. MkI vets would be suh-weet!
