I've been working on these boys off and on for almost FIVE years, they are about to see another rules change, i've played with them 10 times, they have a winning record, 6-2-2. I set out on this project and i will call it massive to better my modeling, painting, and gaming skills.
I started this army to paint and model, I got tired of my friends armies and my own, where we'd have these great looking special characters or commanders, and one of two nicely painted "special squads" and the rest of the armies if painted were just very lackluster... I wanted my Ultramarines to have the same "quality" from tactical marines to my army commanders. Though yes some figures naturally get more time than others, i like it when i put the army on the table and people look at it and go "oooooo, its ALL painted... really well"
The reason why i think I have as many wins as i do, is Tactical troops, lots and lots of troops, big squads are hard to break down on take and hold missions. Also for most non-marine armies, all those bolters. I started believing in the power of the bolter, when i discovered that the more I shoot, the more i hit (the ARE SM's), and the more the have to make saves, the more saves the roll the more they will miss. my two losses and one of the ties, are against SM type armies.
Take a look at my pics let me know what you think, i love good constructive thoughts.

its all painted pretty well. I'm not sure i like the open sarcophagus on the dreadnought but, its a cool idea.

Yeah, its a little out there, with the fluff, but amungst my gaming groups its gotten good reviews, so i've left it alone. I was trying to come up with a conversion that wasn't too over the top.

When I see the Chaplain's head, all I can think of are Christmas lights, lol.

Other than that, they could use a wash, but the painting is fairly good on most of them.

lol maybe its the time of year, i didn't want to few colors otherwise i always end up making some funny pattern. but i did some re-work on the chappy today... alittle more couldn't hurt im sure.
as far as a wash goes, i am worried that they will come out looking wet, like they just walked through a car wash or something lol. that usually how a washed marine looks to me.

i would water your paints down a little so you don't have the thick paint that you have now but apart from that its good.

i've tried that, i just either make it too thin, and i have to apply seven coats of paint or it comes out much the same as it started. is there a formula out there for adding the "right" amount of water to your paint pot??? or is this just a learned / practiced thing??
