2009 Warhammer 40,000 Staff Tournament; Eldar
Print
Email to a Friend
During the summer Jervis held what he hopes to be an annual Warhammer Staff Tournament here at Games Workshop HQ. The event was a great success and he followed it up on Saturday with a Warhammer 40,000 tournament. I had a quick chat with Jervis this morning and he was beaming about how much fun he and the competitors had had over their three games. 'The main reason for holding the tournament was to give everyone a chance to get together and play one of their favourite games for the day, and in this it succeeded admirably. All of the battles were fought in a fantastic spirit of friendly competition, and everyone who took part had a great time. In fact, the tournament proved such a success that I'm already planning a War of The Ring one for spring'.

So the man who bad mouths all of us gamers who love tournys and says we are WAAC is now holding an annual staff tourney? Hrmmmmm I smell Hypocracy(hope I spelled that right).. OK READY SET DISCUSS!!!!!!!!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

....er.. Jervis set up and ran the first few UK GTs as well and normally sticks his head round the door at them to see what's what and say hello.

That doesn't mean he approves of WAAC though.

And they've been doing similar events for years anyhow.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I like the attention to painting detail in the tournament report. We should have more tournaments so we can compliment people's painting. Man, the only reason he won was because of how well painted he was.

OP implying you can't attend a tournament without being a powergaming rules layer

Yep really sounds like winning was the important part...fun fun fun!
The article even says the guy who won did so i part because of his painting and positive attitude.

So how is he WAAC now?
Sounds more like you're just bashing Jervis.
Jeez...

This. I loved seeing that Eldar army.

For all its faults on Fridays/ heavy release times... so far the "What's New Today" has provided some awesome hobby attention.

Ok im bored at work so I might as well go a little in depth on this.

1.) I have been playing GW for almost 20 years now and lately I have been saddend by the way they are heading.
2.) I am not a fan of Jervis often I have read his reports, and found after meeting him that he contradicts himself often, and has no harm in putting down othergamers.
3.) I was hoping to spark some solid debate on this, BUT did not happen so eh was entertaining though.. Could a MOD lock the thread please. No real point to continue.

Thanks

2 seperate times, but sadly no ref to link you. Once was in a white dwarf the other he said in person at a games day. In white dwarf he phrased it a little different then WAAC.

I don't get it.
What kind of debate were you looking for?

Like reds8n said:
The tournaments are something that Jervis has never really spoken out against. It's the WAAC attitude that he seems to be against.

Which is okay, because as we all know they eat babies while chortling to their Dark Gods for their RAW shenanigans and going against us GTPs.

Well ... you win some, you lose some.. either way .. the MODs still don't get paid.

So with the topic having been pretty much exhausted and the user request.. locking in 3..2...1...
