I know a few years back all the GW stores had a huge catalog with every WH bit one could imagine. You could pick any choose any specific bit you wanted and the store would special-order it for you. However I recall reading that they no longer do this. Is this the case? I need a bunch of bits and don't want to spend tons of money buying boxed sets only to use a few pieces here and there. If so, are they any online stores that sell a wide array of bits? Thanks.

You're correct: GW no longer has a bits service like they used to. They do sell a limited range of sprues and bits packs.
There are a ton of online stores that sell bits... You'll find a couple advertising right here on Dakka (click on the 'services' link at the top of the page, and follow that to the list of current banner ads). Or click on my sig for a small range...

they only stock the previously mention *very limited* selection of blisters with metal bits and the bits from plastic kits. if you need a piece off of a metal model in a current range, you're mostly SOL through regular retail channels.

You may want to explain that Hoard O' Bits is namely an ebay store. Their are some great ones on ebay, but definately Hoard O' Bits is the best on ebay, prices can be pricey at times but all around they are pretty cheap.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

I don't trust them at all.
I bought replacement Tau Battlesuit legs from them since I was missing 1. I glue the original leg, then the Horde o bits leg using plastic glue.
The replacement leg isn't setting. 24 hrs later, I can still move it. The other leg is rock solid.
Logical explaination: Horde O Bits makes resin pieces and sells them as actual GW parts.

is the piece plastic or resin? also may be the glue, but have you scoured the models surface before glueing?

Okay, that's one of the wackiest things I've heard in a while - for one thing, the difference between plastic and resin is pretty obvious, even on a piece that small. I've done a bunch of business with Horde O' Bits and had nothing but good experiences with them. Even wound up with some extra 'Nid bits and 60mm bases in one of my shipments. They're good folks, I've found.

The difference between a resin and plastic piece should be fairly easy to spot. They'll feel completely different, even if they look similar.
But either way, being resin won't stop the glue from setting. It'll just stop it from grabbing properly.

I ordered stuff from them, and it showed up missing some stuff. Called him up, told him what happened, and he promptly sent out the stuff I was missing plus a couple extra. Probably the first place I would look for anything I needed to get.

I also reccomend getting Bits of Ebay.
I've bought from Hoard o Bitz multiple times and they're prices are almost always great.
For Bits I recommend Hoard o' Bits, Weinas, Wizardsgames and BitsBoxBitz, although I have yet to recieve my last order from the BitsboxBitz, but it could just be the holidays. The best thing about all of these Ebay Retailes is their auctions always start at .99 for a set of bits (ie. 10x Heads, Arms, Torsos. 5-10x Bodies, Legs or all the bits for particular Vehicle sections0
I also get lots of stuff from MacPac51, who sells whole sprues and boxes.
If your patient enough, you can't often get whole vehicles or squads at 30-50% GW Prices.

One more for HordeOBitz on Ebay. Everything I have ordered from him came through quickly and almost always problem free.
The one time there was a problem (a really late shipment)... it turned out his computer had crashed, taking a good chunk of his database with it. It took him a little time to get things rolling again, but he send some extra stuff with my order as an apology.
Good online store there. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

I like both the warstore and horde o bits. C'mon 10 shoota boy arms starting bid .99? Yes please thank you. I also picked up some burna boyz arms from them for less than 5 bucks with shipping. Said three arms and it came with four plus the Mek boyz arms. May have been a typo in the auction but I like it when people are honest or make mistakes and honor the bargain any ways.
