Technically it was 74 hours, but I know I dozed for some small period in there, so marking it as 72.

Around 48 hours. Curse you Final Fantasy 8!

The 48 hours wasn't even the final run time on that particular save. Getting all the GFs/Magic at high levels and everyone's best weapons meant it ended up at 100 hours total.

I think gamers are full of crap.

20% have done 72+? Not likely. I suppose intrepretation can be different but I would include dozing off as when it ends. Even 15 minutes of sleep I would count as a reset. But then again, gamers/nerds among the greatest at telling tall tales

Similar situation, but we're the guys who had others forcing us to stay awake, and your brain starts to do weird stuff and you just really aren't that alert.

Still doubt 1/5 of dakka dakka has been exposed to this

It happened (especially some years ago) to have to stay awake around 72 hours... but it's never been for gaming reasons (well, it happened once on a vacation, but it was not boardgaming ^^)... most often it happened while studying for some nice exams with less nice professors.
Now... well if I have to stay up and awake, I do it... but for gaming purposes... I don't think I'll ever have to

24+ hours. Senior trip day. Got up around 6 or 7 that morning, went to school, then got all my stuff in the commercial bus with half of my grade (my bus had mostly guys if that's any indicator or unpleasantness). Drove through the night to Orlando, Florida. Got a total of maybe 20 minutes of sleep. I couldn't find a comfortable sleeping position even with having two seats to myself, though the lack of a pillow also didn't help.

Funny thing is that when we got to Florida, we didn't stop at the hotel to drop our stuff off. We went straight to Blizzard Beach and had ourselves a good time there. I strangely didn't feel tired at all while hanging around there enjoying myself, but when we got back in the bus everything went black when I sat down.

Then we had to go back to Pennsylvania four days later.

You cannot convince me to ride a bus out of a city ever again for that reason.

Even casual nights of wargaming that go late result in me getting tired on the drive home. I can't do all nighters.

I've manged to stay awake for like 3 1/2 half days the longest and after that i just crashed like a rock lol.

It was during a LAN that me and my younger brother had with some friends and it was freaking fun but also hard to some times keep your eyes open, of course we bought like 8-12 2 liter coca cola bottles, and then we had Coffee and Tea around as well so that helped out abit.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need

48 hours, wasn't even trying to do so but because I was going from playing my favourite video games for about 10 hours straight as well as doing some tasks that couldn't be avoided all through the day I didn't sleep for at least 2 days.

I was once forced to pull two all nighters in a row without time for naps to finish a school project because my group was a bunch of lazy sods. By the third day, I had begun to see things and was distracted by rumbles and creaks that only I could hear. In a brilliant stroke of sleep deprived logic, I then decided to stay up the next night to play around because why not.

I the next day I passed out during a literature class debate and had to be sent to the nurse, costing my team several points.

Still waiting for Godot.

I stayed awake for 60+ hrs. once a few years back. It wasn't even on purpose, I was very sick with a bad cold, and my constant coughing and nausea kept me from getting any sleep for two nights plus the days. I was miserable the whole time.

The longest was right hour the 70 hour mark or so.. I think, maybe a bit more or a bit less. It was when I was when I was in middle school. It was on purpose and purely out of curiosity to see how long I could stay awake. Some pretty crazy hallucinations started in off/on around the 64 hour mark, it was getting weird. While I've certainly had worse experiences I probably wouldn't care to repeat it.

Falling asleep was kind of bizarre too, it's not like I chose to go to sleep or anything I just kind of blacked out. It wasn't like all at once though too maybe a minute. For lack of a better description I could kind of feel my body "Shutting Down" kind of starting at my extremities. I tried to crawl into a chair or something so I wouldn't be sleeping on the floor but I didn't really make it.

I've done the whole 32-ish hour runs pretty regularly, at least a few times every year. There comes a certain point where I feel better just staying up through the night than getting like ~3 hours of sleep, and it's not like you can skip out on obligations just because you wanted to stay up late.

The longest was just over 72 hours while in the Navy, On board an aircraft carrier are 4 distilling units which turn sea water into delicious drinking water. One of the distilling units went down and I was part of the hand selected group to help fix it. Went from working on it to standing watch back to working on it. If it wasn't a major piece of equipment we would've left it to work on over a period of days but we needed it back ASAP.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

My friends and I tried to stay awake for 48 hours.

First night I was fine, we played a lot of Mordheim, Playstaion, and Computer games. Some of my friends were nodding off, but I kept them awake. One friend was repeatedly closing his eyes and drooping his head, but I repeatedly saved him. Mountain Dew helped too (this was before energy drinks were a thing... maybe Red Bull was out).

Some time after 20 hours, we played Risk. Risk is a volatile game at any time, but especially when no one has slept. It was a 4 or 5 player game. I held Asia against all the other players for a full turn and got the bonus troops. It was glorious. I didn't win, but I did finish off a friend first (the same one who nearly fell asleep the first night). Between those two events, I felt great.

Around 30 hours, I was bragging about how I held Asia against everyone. My one friend (who I kept awake the first night) said I didn't hold it for a turn. I yelled at him saying I did. I saw it in his eyes... he remembered I did. He looked me in the face and snarled "No. You. Didn't." I lost it. I slammed him against the wall as hard as I could and held him there. Neither of us said anything. We simmer down or friends split us up.

46 hours. I was feeling it. We stopped playing games that requires us moving things carefully. One friend was playing quake 3 or some single player fps on the cpu. Boring. One friend was playing FF 8 or 9 on the PS. Boring. My other friend was just staring at the Quake game, but I couldn't do it (never liked FPS).

47 hours. I fall asleep. My friends wake me at 48 hours and tell me I failed. I was furious. I grab all my stuff and drive home (not far but definitely dangerous. I was hallucinating a little and laughing for no reason. I slammed on my brakes really hard once because I thought I saw a kid running across the street).

I sleep for about 12 hours.

I wake up and start watching my video camera to see what we recorded. It was all stupid. At the very end of it, it's my friend that I kept awake the first night, my friend I eliminated from Risk, my friend that I threw against the wall... He's taping me... on my own camera.... asleep. Him laughing and showing his watch, confirming it's 47 hours in.

I lose it again and destroy the tape.

So, 47 hours is my longest amount.

I'm confident I could go further if I was playing a video game... this was before WoW was out. Or even Dota. I accidentally did over 24 hours playing the original DoTA on warcraft 3.

Like 8 years later...

That guy is my best man at my wedding. He's giving a speech about my strengths. He says I'm "passionate". He tells the story about Risk and how I threw him against the wall. He of course mentions how I didn't make it 48 hours also...

What an ass.

Longest time over 120 hours (after that it all went rather fuzzy) when I was sixteen just to see if I could.

But used to do 48-72 hours on a fairly regular basis (when I was younger).

Now with three kids the most I can manage is 24-48.

Most I've went at once was about 48 hours, Then there was a time where I was on anti-depressants and went for about a day without sleep at a time, also when I did sleep it was only for about an hour before I woke up and couldn't sleep again. That was absolute torture.
