Finally got some of the ships oriented stuff I've done for Vanguard Miniatures printed:

Two of my Destroyer designs for Vanguard Miniatures are as good as ready.

Do you guys have any final feedback before I'm shipping them off for printing?

The Novan Elites Frigate (three types of broadside weapon configurations) has been printed and is off to get cast. Expect it to be released around April this year.


Also, two Destroyer variants have officially been shipped off to Vanguard Miniatures for printing.

I've said it in other forums but I'll add here, really looking forward to these. Personally I think they're more light cruisers than destroyers (the existing escorts cover the destroyer niche) but it's all a matter of taste.

Note that my Destroyers are about 36mm long. My Frigate is 55mm. Light Cruisers should be closer to 75mm long.

Good point... I've been using 2" Space Fleet ships so my perspective is a bit skewed.

No worries there! Speaking of Space Fleet, I'd love to do some units from that era and tweak them to fit the current design standards.

In the meantime I started working on some bombers. The tricky thing is that there aren't any models of Space Marine bombers out there, so I kinda based it on the old Stormbird, but then a version which is capable of space flight (those rotor blades wouldn't work in the cold void). The reasoning behind it is that in BFG the Tau use Mantas as bombers rather than boarding/landing craft. So if why not something similar for the Stormbird?





As you can see I've got two versions of the bomber, one with laser cannons akin to the fighter or firing big missiles. My personal preference are the missiles, it would make more sense and it's a nice differentiation compared to the fighter.

Your thoughts?

As for the bombers, I like the missiles ones, you might also want to add ones with much larger missiles underslung for folks who want to use torpedo bombers.

How big will they be in fleet scale?

The idea behind this ship is that its weaponry is hidden inside the hull/prow of the ship. It's only visible because the ship's hatches are opened. I guess the model could also be used as a Defence Monitor.





A few things that still need to be done:
(1) Tweaking some of the details
(2) Making an enclosed prow variant (where you don't see any weapons protruding)
(3) Make two bits to enclose the top part of the hull, to make it seem as if the turrets are hiding down below in the hull.

Man, that's cool! I love the modular prows. When you print them, will they be separate pieces or is it 3 different files, each that print looking a little different?

Ooh those are looking awesome! The huge guns blend in perfectly with the ships. I'm gonna need some of those I think..

Also most of your pictures are now blocked by photobucket so you may want to salvage them before it eats 'em up!
