I play various Marines (mostly as Alpha Legion and Black Legion or Deathwatch, but I'll experiment here and there, which we can all thank custom paint jobs for), and Necrons. AdMech were all lost in a fire (the second time this happened I might add) along with a majority of the other two armies so I'm only doing smaller games whilst I rebuild everything.

So I think the rules are a bloody insult to anybody that actually painted their Marines as Blood Ravens.

Can I walk into my local GW and either purchase or order it? No?

Then it's not easy to acquire. Not for the vast majority of the new players in this game.

This type of gatekeeping is what gets you called TFG.

Hi, I painted my first 8th edition army as Blood Ravens. My next project is to paint up this Artel W Gabe. Funny enough, I don't feel insulted. Why not?

Various reasons. Primarily because this is a game, I don't have to use these rules, and I feel they're pretty awesome for the theme of the army. If I was looking to win competitive games, I wouldn't be playing Astartes to begin with. I do play them because they're cool. I will play these rules because they're cool to me.

I also like to avoid ridiculous hyperbole because it's the mark of someone too immature to adequately explain and support their position. It comes off as if you can't possibly fathom another perspective but your own, and instead of accepting that there are things you won't understand and things people can enjoy while you don't, you try and bully people into feeling badly about their preferences.

I think that's just straight up not cool.

But the BR stuff is cool.

But didn't you hear?

Anyone that thinks that if the new things is not completely and utterly OP is a GW white knight shilling for their poor writing.
Unless its pretty darn competitive, and then anyone not bashing GW for writing OP rules to sell models is white knighting.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I did hear this.

The low number of things considered 'good' versus the high number of things considered 'trash' suggests that they've actually almost got the balance down.

The good things are clearly just too good. Nerfs are needed

If you can read, you'd see the rules are insulting. Did you read the rules? Like, at all?

Yeah heaven forbid you decide you want some sorta standards for rules writing, right?

Your keyboard must be faulty. It keeps stringing together random letters that literally no one else recognises as a legitimate argument.

Back on topic.

I like the chapter tactic. A slight bonus to surviving heavy weapons like lascannons and a slight bonus to both the success rate of psychic attempts, the success rate of denies, and the rate of not exploding due to double 1s. Makes it more of a new player chapter tactic than a dedicated list builder like the Raven Guard since its really just offering forgiveness against really bad dice rolls.

The relic is really good for Librarians. The librarian's bolt pistol is terrible and giving them the ability to add another point of damage on something that just got smited is nice.

I'm meh on Gabriel. He's another character that looks great until you get to his point cost. It's just too much of a point investment. Characters should really cost as much as the loyal 32.

Anybody else get a chance to get them on the table yet with the new abilties? I'm thinking of doing a modification of my DeathWatch list with 2-3 primaris libarians and a bunch of intercessors plugging holes in targets on the approach. With DeathWatch I always teleported in some dreadnoughts as raodblocks, but I'm wondering if Blood Ravens wouldn't prefer some agressors or inceptors.

Any thoughts?

Fine. What's YOUR standard for rules writing and Chapter Tactic equivalents? I'm all ears.

And your defense for garbage rules writing is legit?

No one Slayer-fan is saying this is a POWERHOUSE Chatper tactic, it's a situational one. proably best used on a supreme command detachment of Libbys or something with your main force using another differant chapter tactic.
What we are saying is it's not "uninspired" and it's not an insult.

what are we using to base it on well..

My standard is simple. First I read the fluff for the chapter and get an idea as to what it's feel is like., is it a chapter that is all about massed infantry assaults. is it one noted for close combat? is it noted for being exceptionally well disiplined and drilled? Is it noted for it's Librarians?

etc.
and then I look at the rules as written, does it enchourage and reward fielding an army to match the fluff? does it perhaps open up a minor ability to be strong in an area where the faction is supposed to be strong?
If this is good then I appreciate the thought behind the idea.

guess what, this chapter tactic fits the bill nicely. Now I would have liked to see some other stuff, I would have prefered something to a pistol for the relic, but if we have to get a pistol relic it's a NICE relic.

I see nothing wrong with GW using the WD to make chapter tactics for minor league chapters that are simply differant and perhaps specialist.

Folks, I think it's best to stop feeding the troll and move on.

This isn't really news or rumors anymore, so maybe it's time to lock this one down?

I, obviously, disagree with Slayer-fan here, but I think calling him a troll for simply thinking the trait is garbage is unfair to him. He's got an opinion and is expressing it.

Slayer-Fan is definitely not a troll. He or she has very strong opinions and voices them. Honestly, I agree with him to a certain extent on this. The tactic isn't nearly as bad as he says, but it is fairly corner case usability. I think if it was no weapons wound at better than a 4+, that might be a bit too powerful, but I would rather have seen that and drop the Librarian bonus. Oh well. I play Crimson Fists (who also have a decent, but not spectacular Chapter Tactic), so it doesn't really affect me. If people have fun with the BR tactics, more power to them.
