Two votes for axe number one (and mine as well if I'm honest) puts Choppy McChopFace in the hands of Coney the Bunnybarian.

One more sculpt in mind to complete the rabbit warband and then there's the Frankenlizard... Haven't gotten any further with that I'm afraid.

Nice one theCrowe! Coney looks great, what colours do you have in mind? Wild rabbit or some pure breed pet?

I think because they're all quite different I'll maybe go for wild rabbit colours on all of them to tie the warband together a bit. I've been doing lots of other stuff lately and the B&B sculpting has slowed right down. I do see lots of painted minis coming to this blog soon though.

Thanks Robert, you're very kind.

Been trying to get some painting done but it's been slow going between projects to fix the house up to sell.

Ribbet Plant got a lick of paint.

Not sure he's really finished but it's close enough for rock and roll.

Here follows a rant on basing and photography.
Spoiler:

I always wonder if I shouldn't get the basing done before I take these pics. I plan on batch basing at some point. I'll take a selection that need doing and give them a similar treatment but different to the last lot so they're not all alike in the end. I've done some in a flowery meadow theme and some in a green undergrowth looking thing already. I could also do autumn leaves or a wilder looking rocky weeds theme.

I always plan on takin some glamour shots of the whole lot with the big camera at the end of the project but then my old computer has died and it had Photoshop Lightroom on there so without that my big camera can't get photos into Dakka so easily. So in the meantime a phone snap against my grey kitchen tiles in the glow of the under cupboard lighting is the most convenient and functional light box option.

And then I made a half hearted start on my last rabbit.

Going for a classic wizard look with a Gandalf hat for this guy. He will be Fiver of course in the Watership Down themed warband but for now Wizard rabbit name is up for grabs.

The cat belt is excellent. The froggy's coat is neat, too.
Can't think of any good rabbit wizard names.

Nice Frog, and base is done enough to not be too noticable.

Hoping to see more on the Bunnincanabula when the mood strikes you.

A belated vote for the axe head that you picked in the end, it looks great, as does your sculpt.

I think the frog looks good too and I wouldn't worry about completing the basing. If your style is to go through and base everything after then work with that. It'll keep things uniform too.

Ribbit Plant! Love it! He looks very smart and another good addition to the collection. As for the bases, I think tying each warband together by their basing would work well

Thanks Jazzy. Not to worry you'll have plenty of time for inspiration to strike.

Thanks Vit. It's a plan growing all the more dubious the longer I leave it.

Not a bad effort if I could say it Vej. Think it may be opportunity more than mood at this stage.

Thanks T Horde. I had done some batches of basing before and I'll likely do it again. Not too worried with uniformity as I like the variety this game offers.

Thanks gobert. I had planned on that sort of thing at one point but then I expect there will be a pretty fluid shifting around and no two warbands made will ever likely all have the same base type. Players will only ever have a handful of characters on the board at once so remembering who's who shouldn't require uniform bases, nice though it might look.
I'll likely do all the rabbits the same at least.

He does! At least the rules give frogs the leap ability. So that's perfect.

So as I've hinted already I'm not likely to have any hobby time to get any further on this project for a while as everything is packed up preparing to move house! (Yikes!) So it may be a few months yet before I can get out the putty or the paint brushes. I'll still have my phone to write fiction and I may even doodle a sketch here and there but sadly not much more. I'll still be around dakka enjoying all your projects vicariously and you'll see me about no doubt. Looking forward to getting back to it all again when I can.

Good luck with the move, it’s always a stressful time in my experience. Are you moving far or staying near the Castle and the great play park?

Thanks gobert, not too far hopefully. keeping the boys in the same school would be the plan. Just need to find a house for sale that ticks all the boxes (or enough of them) but we need to be ready to jump when the time comes.

I'd like to measure the volume of boxes to see how large my entire collection is. Honestly it's a bit of a bad joke.

Wish I could be making a grander more triumphant return to Dakka but I’m still up to my neck in white emulsion, rollers and skirting boards and grout! But hey, everyone needs to take a break sometimes to relax so I managed to sneak this one in tonight.

First with the wire frame as always. Taking a break from the rabbits to have some fun with this.

Can you guess what it is before I move on to the milliput?
Spoiler:

He’s a sneaky snake disguising itself in a handy scarecrow.

So good to get a sculpting tool in my hand again. Can’t wait to reach for the greenstuff at my next opportunity. Hopefully before Christmas!
Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks everyone. Glad to back at it. So much so that I’m back with a progress update already! Once I started back at it I just couldn’t stop.
So I’ve gotten some green on the snake as would seem appropriate.

He’s coming along nicely. The snake skin is a bit rough but then it was the last time too.
dakkadakka

Then I haven’t completely abandoned the last of the rabbit band. He got some milliput and has begun to take shape.

I had some greenstuff left over and mixed some into the milliput (gross!) it helped to strengthen around the feet and mostly made up the base for the head and hat.

The snake looks amazing theCrowe, I don't consider it rough. Nice progress on the rabbit as well. I'm looking forward to seeing it as it progresses.

Thanks Syro_ I really need to get a better photo set-up together. It’s hard to see the detail on the greens (rough or otherwise)

Quick update of the weekend’s progress.

Snake is almost done, not much left for him. The magic rabbit is coming on leaps and bounds... so to speak.

Thanks gobert. I do love when a good idea comes out right. Might even be possible to paint him in time for Halloween!

Anyway, here he is, Sneaky scarecrow snake is done!

Though, in burrows and badgers world what a crow would find so scary about a scarecrow I don’t know. Best not to think about it too much.

I love the idea of this even if it makes no sense.

Bundalf is coming along slowly.

I was hoping to find something for a crystal ball for him but I just set this milliput one in temporarily to work on him. I’ll replace it with a glass one later.

Then it should come as no surprise but...

I GOT A FEVER!

AND THE ONLY CURE IS MORE GREENSTUFF!!!

Ha! I love that you added a pumpkin to the base, though I think that means it needs to be painted before Halloween! Bundalf is coming along well, hopefully you can rescue a small bead from your kids

Unfortunately my kids don’t really like beads... apparently I can get some 4mm glass balls off eBay. It appears people use them in sling shots? Seriously? Who’s doing that? To what end? Glass! Seriously? Don’t they realise they’re wasting perfectly good tiny miniature crystal balls?

Painting tonight. No photos yet. I’ve entered the monthly painting challenge for October with the scare-snake but I’m eyeing up that other snake i’m making too and thinking it could be a vampire snake!

The last of my rabbit warband, Bundalf the trusty seer and magician is now finished.

Just have to bang him on a base and blast him with primer and I’ll have the full set ready for paint.

And then the surprising turn toward snakes continues with this fella getting some facial features and a spooky boney base.

All he needs now is a vampire cape and I’ll be adding him into my painting challenge Halloween entry.

And not content with just a simple snake I’ve embarked upon an attempt at making a large skeleton snake!

Haven't really thought the thing through yet. At the minute he’s just a big green spring. And I suspect the ribs will be a bit of a faff but I’m looking forward to seeing how he’ll turn out.

No further progress on the new shrew Knight but I’ve ordered a real one for my birthday so I’ll maybe wait to use that as a size guide. Also ordered a few more wonderful Oathsworn originals to keep the project grounded in the B&B setting as I go along.

One vampire snake primed and ready to paint for this months challenge.

The big skelly snake is coming along too. Lots of wire ribs going on. Very freaky looking so far. But I don’t think he’ll make it to be painted in time for halloween.

Bundalf looks good, though I admit I get more Cottontail Mather from him--I think its the angle, making the robe lowers look kind of like poofy wrap pants though, plus the collar. Still a fun, characterful sculpt. Also loving the snakes! Do snake vampire fangs work both ways, I wonder?

I can’t recommend this method of making a large skeleton snake.

But I continue regardless. A very messy sculpt. It’ll take some tidying up as I go along.

Wider project news- Did a lot of bases tonight in a nice autumnal forest floor theme.

I’m planning a few shots to show the scale of my ever-growing B&B collection, and what’s still to paint. And maybe then I’ll have a think about what’s missing and what I should be sculpting next.
