I've always liked that Mantic Mule- you've done an excellent job with it. And the colors are very much like I remember seeing on both Iraq and the 'Stan. Looking forward to seeing the next vehicles!

I'll vouch for the shocks too. I thought they were nice touch painted.

Having seen the Mule in person, it really did turn out nice.

Were you going to do those new Anvil guys in similar colors or as a different chapter?

Yeah, I got my Black Friday Black Ops Marine from Anvil Industry today. He's huge. Easily Primaris sized. Even kneeling, the guy is as tall as a regular Space Marine. So yeah, He'll be joining my Primaris Raptors.

I love seeing Deadzone stuff on here. I much prefer their sci-fi aesthetic to, say, Corvus Belli. Maybe it's the old 2000AD nerd in me Also, lovely Raptors; there's not enough military green marines

Following on the heels of the Mule is the promised Taurox. I decided to go with the minigun packing Taurox Prime since it was the cooler looking setup. The wheels come from Blood and Skulls Industries, which I got from their ebay store. They make the Taurox so much more palatable. I will never understand why GW thought the treads would be a good idea.

Looks ace and really militaristic, in the best possible way. I could handle the rear treads on a Taurox, because Half-tracks rule, but the front ones were just idiotic. Great work!

That's a nice, crisp paint job on that vehicle-- well done. I agree that the wheels really improve the model.

That was the one you showed me the other day right?

I totally confused it with your mule because of its lack of tracks.

Didn't realize what I was looking at. Did turn out nice. So did the mule.

When I last updated, it was actually Monday morning, around midnight. Since then, I've had a bit happen this week that's left me more than a little depressed. Unfortunately, Monday morning, I had to say goodbye to my 17 year old dog, Kiki. I'm not going to go into it too much, especially since I've already eulogized her several times on Facebook and Instagram. Just, we'd had her for nearly 16 years. That long, they're not just a pet, they're a part of the family. Losing her has just left me messed up all week. Today was really the first day I was able to bring myself to start painting and the first day where I've felt almost normal again. I dedicated a good chunk of the day to working on a couple of minis and only just now completed them.

Here is a Genestealer Broodlord, purchased on Black Friday.

I had plans to whip up a Purestrain Kill Team with this guy as their leader. You may notice that I've made him blind. For whatever reason, the eyes on Tyranids and Genestealers have never sat right with me. They need either more eyes, or less. More makes them look more buggy, which is nice. But, frankly, I think they look a lot freakier with no eyes. Certainly more Xenomorph-like, but it helps add more of an alien feel to them. I went with Hive Fleet Kraken's colors mostly just because it's what's on the box. I wanted him to have more of a sickly pale color to his skin though. Since Genestealers spend most of their time hiding out in deep, dark spaces, I figure they wouldn't get a lot of sunlight, so the paler skin tones really work for them. The lack of eyes also helps with that. Some creature that spends most of its time in the darkness of a derelict space hulk isn't really going to need good eyesight.

The other figure I completed today was a Chaplain for my Raptors. Now they have someone who can bash in the skulls of heretics.

Most Chaplain models have a rather ostentatious look to them that doesn't fit well with the Raptors' more practical look. This 30k Chaplain is almost perfect though. No gaudy robes, no scraps of paper all over him, no reliquaries, not even a skull helmet. He has some fancy details, but nothing to really get in the way of him fighting, which I really like. This is a Chaplain that's ready to hold the line alongside his battle brothers.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
After typing that post, I had a memory about Kiki pop back in my mind. Something I'd almost completely forgotten about. Back when I lived at my parents' house, back when she used to sleep on my bed, often times while I was painting or building a model at my hobby table, she would sit and wait for me under the table. I'd usually be giving her belly rubs with my feet while I was painting.

Also, that chaplain is especially nice, dude.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Bob, you actually got to meet Kiki. Sadly, not in her prime though. She definitely left a gap in our lives.

I've been trying to channel that grief into a creative outlet, so I've been working on adding to my Raptors. Today I finished Anvil Industries' Black Friday Black Ops special edition sniper. He'll be joining my Primaris Raptors as a marksman. And guess what, that just happens to be a specialist option available in Kill Team!

I know the cloak kind of blends into his armor. It's actually khaki, not green. Same color as the casing on his rifle. I love the look of this guy, so I'm looking forward to see what Anvil's full production line of Exo Lords are going to look like.

While I confess to having a soft spot for the Jes Goodwin Scout Snipers, that's a really nice Power Armor Sniper with a superb job on the camo!

The sniper is terrific- I can't believe how intricate the camo pattern is! That must have taken some lengthy focus.

Love the wheels on the Taurox - gives it a great look, kind of consistent with the Mule too in overall vibe, just more ornate. Like a command vehicle.

I don't think so. I think you tried to pick up one of the rats, either Ratty or Penelope.

Actually, no. I don't think it looks very good up close. Doesn't look much like Multicam, which was what I was after. I just did this while the tv was on. Took maybe ten minutes or so.

Christmas was surprisingly decent. There's a noticeable difference without Kiki around, though.

inmygravenimage wrote:Superb work. A remind of why camo marines rock!

Actually, I only have this guy and my Reivers rocking camo. But, my Raptors are almost all kitted out for spec ops work.

aku-chan wrote:That's a nifty looking camo cloak.

Thanks. I was torn as to whether I should try going for Multicam, or if I should've tried something that would contrast a bit better with the green armor.

kestral wrote:Love the wheels on the Taurox - gives it a great look, kind of consistent with the Mule too in overall vibe, just more ornate. Like a command vehicle.

Exactly what I was going for with it. I wanted both to look like more rugged military hardware.

Small update today. I finished the Aggressors my dad picked up for me. I've been working on them as a way to try and focus on my energy into something a bit more productive. Now my Raptors have some heavier support.

I decided to break my own rule about officers standing out and gave the Sergeant a red helmet. I don't think that's something these guys would do, but I'll admit, I do like the way the red helmet looks. I'll allow Rule of Cool this once.

My Black Friday order from Anvil was actually pretty small. Just two things: the sniper and an Afterlife figure. I completed the Afterlife figure today. He's a Republic Grenadier Commander.

One of my Christmas gifts was Labyrinth of the Necrons. So that means I now have all of the members of Squad Sevastus (minus the Captain). I'll be focusing on painting the rest of the squad next.

Well, I have all of the Labyrinth of the Necrons guys painted, which means I have the full 10-man squad for Squad Sevastus. I'm not yet ready to post them yet though because I haven't added the decals just yet. Once those are on, I'll post them.

Today's update is partially NSF. I backed Hasslefree's Kickstarter to have Kev White (and Tre Manor) sculpt figures based on some Matt Dixon pinup art. I know some have had issues with the Kickstarter (and a number have been verbally abusing Hasslefree's staff), but I received my figures without any problems. Granted, I only ordered three, but still. They're nice figures. Each figure was offered in four formats: pinup, skyclad, "winter," and "frost." Skyclad should be obvious, those are nudes. Pinup is the character clothed, but wearing skimpy clothing. Winter is the character dressed sensibly and much more realistically, and Frost is actually a resculpt by Tre Manor. The frost versions were interesting because Tre would sculpt heavy cold weather gear over the skyclad nudes. I wound up getting one nude, one pinup, and one frost. I just completed the first of them, which is the skyclad Shayda Diavol, a barbarian warrior.

I'll leave the pic spoiler'd for those at work.

Spoiler:

And yes, Kev did indeed sculpt them all anatomically correct.

Last night I finished a significantly more clothed figure, Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper v.1 from Warmachine.

I'm very fond of Warmachine's elves, as I'm sure I've mentioned in the past.

Lastly, here's a bit of a teaser as to something else I've been working on...

Brother Addicio Sanyctus

"Just get me to the front line. My claws will do the rest."

Since losing his right eye to an Ork axe, Adiccio Sanyctus has burned with violent rage. He is given to berserk charges in close engagements, slashing his enemies apart with his lightning claws as he ploughs onward. Only when the din of battle recedes does he speak calmly once more.

How often do you see a Terminator sculpted in a running pose? Brother Sanyctus comes from Space Marine Heroes series 2. He's the third one I've completed from that squad. Just a few more to go. I'll post the others once they're all finished. His bio, btw, comes from his little bio card included with the figure. This time, they actually have the bio and the quote in English and Japanese, which is nice. I still have no clue what the little symbols on the card mean though. Like with series 1, they don't match up to any GW games or stats that I'm aware of.
