Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Real ghost stories are easy enough to find with specials on TV and all the sites on the internet about it. Its almost enough to validate ones faith in the afterlife with all the material out there to peruse.

However, do you actually KNOW anyone who REALLY claims to have seen a ghost and who's story is actually beleivable? I know I dont.

So, anyone here on dakka actually SEEN a ghost or experienced something that cannot be explained away? Not talking about some BS your second cousin from cleveland told you or some pathologically lying friend claims. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ONLY.

Anyone?

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

I have but I'll go into more detail when I have time. I'm supposed to be fixing computers for window lickers.

I've had two things that I cannot explain, but I am not quick to say paranormal as their is a lack of total evidence. I'll let you all decide:
1) The first was at my home in IL where I grew up. I was in my room painting with all the windows closed, and no one in the house. My door was old so to lock it shut you had to push it then lift for it to lock. The door swung open and then when I looked startled it swung shut and lifted up and I heard it lock. I walked over to check and it wouldnt budge so I knew something wierd had happened.

2.) The second time actually was while working at a gaming store(not going to say which), but some of my coworkers had reported strange stuff happening in the shop, and on my last night of closing I was alone when things got..odd. I was tallying up the till when I heard a kids laughter. I looked out front thinking some kids were still hanging around, nothing so I went to the back of the store looked in the bathroom the alley, the store room, nothing. I went back to my work and the laughter wouldnt stop, so I ignored it. The lights began to flicker, and I started to freak out a bit. As I finished up I had to go to the back to turn off the fuse box when the tables started to move. I hit the fuses and bolted out the door, barely locking it and shaking like crazy. Thankfully that was my last night closing.

Now I can't say these are paranormal, but they were ...odd

Runnin up on ya.

I have, when I looked in the mirror; I really need to get some sun. *drum roll* thank you thank you, I'll be here all week.

Seriously,
I grew up in a house that was built in 1924; there was a corner of my bedroom where my cat wouldn't go and would sometimes look intently at it and hiss. Saw shadows, temperature drops, that kind of stuff.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Reposting from the last thread we had back in October on ghosts and the paranormal...

Fifth grade, we had a week long "end of school vacation" that the school had arranged where we stayed on board the USS Yorktown down in South Carolina. Saw a full figure, wearing WWII naval fatigues, doing the rounds in a section of the ship when going to the bathroom. Thought it was a security guard until he walked through a sealed bulkhead.

Most interesting part was that the sealed bulkhead led to an area that was damaged by a torpedo strike and the security guards were given the week that we were staying off, due to the fact that there would be people actually staying on board the ship.

Even more interesting?
Wasn't the first time that had been reported, which makes me want to go back there and try to document it or disprove it.

As I said before, my mother was at her friends house (old Victorian one). She took a photo of her friend in her bedroom, and there was a fairly clear Victorian lady in the background looking at them. Scared the crap out of them.

Yep, in the house in PA. I used to live in. It was a little girl in a night dress going up stairs that was seen by my father and other people on different occasions.

My bro and I have a ghost in our house that we live in now. Weird things like footsteps, parts of the house colder than others (even on 90+ degree days), cat seeing things that aren't there and her hair standing up on her back and her hissing and arching her back, dog not wanting to lay in certain parts of the house.

When I was growing up as a toddler the house my parents lived in was haunted too. Again, footsteps when we knew we were all alone, people whispering, locked doors being unlocked and open the next morning.

No Amityville type stuff going on but we knew we weren't alone and my bro and I know we aren't alone in this house either.

I've never seen a ghost, per se. However, there have been a couple of instances in my life which I would describe as odd.

1. My folks used to own an apartment house when I was a kid, and it was always said to be bad news. There are stories about it being haunted, some even on record in the local library. My aunt (whose credibility is extremely suspect) will tell all manner of fantastic tales about the house, but there was only one time that I was bothered by it. There was a sun room on the second floor that, while I was cleaning it up to show to potential renters, dropped in temperature so much that I got goose bumps. No small thing in an Indiana summer.

2. I spent several months in San Diego during my time in the USMC. One summer, my sister flew out to visit and insisted we go to see the Whaley House. I thought, "tourist trap," but we humor our little sisters. So we went. It was after hours, the place was closed, so we had to look from outside. We were able to peer through the windows, walk through the backyard, etc. No one thing happened that I can point to and say "paranormal," but the entire time I was there I was uncomfortable. Intensely so at some points, really on edge when I was on the porch straining to see into the dark house through the windows. I'm not really the credulous sort when it comes to the paranormal, but that night made me rethink things a bit despite there being nothing overtly supernatural about it.

I took this photo at an allnighter in the city a few weeks back( the sleeping guy on the bench is a mate of mine, so dont worry )
what I'mon about is the two figures in the back...they weren't there when I took the photo, it's not a poster, I don't own photoshop, and I've never shown this photo to anyone else...

EDIT!!!!
I FOUND THE ORIGINAL PHOTO ON MY PHONE, THE OTHER ONE WAS RESIZED...

I've never actually seen a ghost, but I have had two weird things happen to me. Nothing quite so intense as some of the ones in here (That photo is kinda freaky, and I'm getting goosebumps just reading about Empchild's two happenings) but I have had experiences.

I know this will probably just get chalked up to childhood imagination, but when I was younger (About 6 or 7) I would occasionally stay overnight at my grandma's house. Well, the house itself was pretty nice, and so I always enjoyed it with no real apprehensive feelings whatsoever. But one night when I was over there, I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night for no good reason (And I'm a heavy sleeper, was a heavy sleeper back then as well). I didn't see anything, but I did hear what was then one of the scariest things I'd ever heard. The windows in my room where I was sleeping were old and creaky, and I was alone in there at about 2:30 AM. The windows opened on their own, and I started hearing this quiet, ghastly moan from outside. Thankfully, my grandparents have since moved closer to us, and I haven't visited that old house since. But that memory does still haunt me to this day...

The other one was when I was in my room, alone in the house, in the middle of the day. All the windows were shut and locked since it was stifling out, and we had the AC on high. My room doesn't have a lock, but it does close all the way (There is an office door that doesn't quite close completely). Anyway, I was alone, in my room on the computer playing a game, when suddenly the door slammed open. I looked out to see who it was, but nobody was there. I never saw or heard anything other than that, but it was damn creepy.

Alrighty I personally in recent years have grown to love the study of the paranormal so some fo this guys can be explained some can't. starting with the pic. Have other pictures shown the same thing, because some times things like that are inprinted in the glass and can only be seen from certain angles. Also was their people walking behind you as this could be a reflection as well? Not knocking just curious.

@shane: what was the age of the house? The reason I ask is often older homes have crapy wiring that emits a high emf reading that can make you feel uncomfortable. Also their is the aspect of our own minds spoking us. Not disputing but curious.

@Locclo as per the windows opening I have nothing, but the ghostly voices could be wind often wafting around a home or in between homes creating that ever so creepy ghostly nose. As per the door ya you got activity my friend...... Thats FREAKING AWSOME!!!!!!!!

The house is roughly 150 years old, I think. It's an important site in San Diego history, and also one of the most notorious haunted houses in the United States. For this reason, I figured "tourist trap," and I have to say I was fairly dismissive. I'm aware of the wiring phenomenon, but the fact that I didn't get to go into the house seems to suggest that a case of nerves is more likely. Still, I've been to several supposedly haunted sites, and that's pretty uncharacteristic for me. The idea that the house's reputation caused it is equally unlikely; although my sister was aware of it I was entirely ignorant of the Whaley House, only inspired to learn about it after that night.

My friend and I saw a hazy gray shape in a house that we... well... we heard that this house was haunted, and it was abandoned so we went "exploring." Mind you this was over a decade ago...

Anyway we let ourselves inside and were walking down this sketchy old hallway with the wallpaper peeling off and chunks of ceiling plasters laying on the floor when my friend turned around to say something to me and went very pale, looking past me. I turned and for a split second saw a grayish mist. I swear that is true!

And when I was much younger I was in my grandparents' house and was watching my brother who was the only other person there besides me. We were both sitting in the same room when from the other side of the house we both heard a high-pitched woman's laugh, almost like a cackle. We were both pretty weirded out about it.

I honestly don't know, after my step father passed away I saw strange "man shaped"(blurs/dark areas) several times when I would go to visit my Mom.
I have no idea what I was seeing, but my Mom and my siblings swore they had seen my step fathers (Ghost) on many occasions.
I will admit it "felt" like he was in the room when ever these "apperitions" would appear.

I used to have a problem when I was younger, where I had ghost-like hallucinations. It got so bad (couldn't sleep, bullying in school etc) that I ended up seeing a child psychologist for it. He helped me confront the "ghosts", which helped me move on. I'm pretty in debt to the psychologist, but I guess he moved or something because I never saw him again.

the second one could be explained by air pressure forcing the door open especialy if the ac was on hing if some one were to opon or close another door in the house it could force open your door, and knowing that allows me to seriously freak out my sister
