Which one of these list do you think would stand a better chance at taking on all comers. I mean if I went to a tournament which one of these would stand a better chance .

Thats 1845. HG stays with dante adn corbulo with DC. basically with the preds and all the rhinos I will screen dante and the dreads.

So there it is. I have all the models except the tanks. So I am trying to fiqqgure this out before I go a splurge. I really want to be competitive against all armies. So any thoughts?

I abhor 5 man troop choices. Fix that and I will gladly give some more advice, such as...

I would arm the VAS Marine with both the TH & SS rather than spreading them out.

Hey Green Blow Fly. Just wanted to clarify the TH/SS is on one model. i realize now that looks confusing but it was intended to show what upgrades were purchased for the unit. but yes one model with both TH/SS. Also I took a closer look at the codex and if I am going to consider the list with the LR's than I am going to replace the VAS with a 5 man terminator AS with 4x Pair LC and 1x TH/SS. THat leaves me with 50 pts to spend on another hunter killer missle and pintle monted storm for all the transports.

Thats 1840. Now about those 5 man squads. The reason for it is that is the cheapest way to arm them with PF and a rhino. the rhino is free for assult squads and if i spllit them up it would be an extra 110 for the 5 marines and another 40 for the rhino. There goal is support and objective taking. My ears and eyes are open if you can show me a better way.

As far as list one goes... I think you are limited to a 10 man total DC. I wish you could purchase 10 and add them to the free ones, but pretty sure it's 10 only.

Death company: Your limited to 10.
I'd also get them a transport.

Tac squads: Throw them in razors instead of a rhino.
that extra few points means alot when you can grab some fire-power.
Failing that, go the whole 9 yards and grab TL las for the backs.

Not sure why your running dante without a unit.
Either throw him with a VAS, or, get him some honour guards, give them a chapter banner, power wep and work from there.

On his own he will dent units, but he wont do enough to justify his points.

Also, if your taking corb for the DC, it might be worth swapping him out for a basic chappy to gain the power wep, you can then also get him a fist for dealing with armour, since the DC lack it even with rending.



Also, go for 10 man tac squads.
You can allways combat squad them, throw half in a transport (with the Sgt and meltagun) then keep 4 basics and a heavy behind for fire support.



If you feel like throwing points into a blender for fun, then grab a 10 man dev squad with 4 plasma cannons.
That unit alone will deal with allmost every unit in your way, and with the extra marines it means you wont lose a cannon too soon.

DC need to have either Jump Packs or a Rhino. They need to be in Close Combat, and they need to have Corb, Lemartes or a Chaplain otherwise a savy opponent will just kite them around with sacrificial unit aka IG trooper squads or Gretchin.

Also JD21290 is right, use 10 man tacs, combat squad with a razorback and have the HW with 4 basics giving fire support. If you take an assault squad make sure its max size as they will always lose a marine when exposed.

Dante should have a unit with him, preferably with Jump Packs and geared for melee butchery. Stick him in with a chap on the DC for beatstick unit that will cause the other guy to gak himself. Put him in Honour Guard for the HG stuff or put him in a pimped out 10 man Veteran Assault Squad if you feel HG are too small.

LR won't need a PM Stormbolter, if its shooting, its got better things to shoot with then 2 S4 24" AP5 shots. Same goes for the HK missile, your Las Cannons aren't going to be out of range in most battles and the LRC has a Multi-Melta. Take Extra Armour instead.

Also your reasoning about the 5 man squads being the cheapest way to C/C objectives is not a good idea, because Objectives need to be held by a unit that can then survive 2 turns (usually) of concerntrated effort to break or bury them. 5 wounds and the squad takes a dirt nap, 2 wounds forces the 25% Morale check, and again at 3 Wounds.

Consider that most armies have access to AP3 special or heavy weapons at some point; how long do you reckon the assault squads would hold out against a Tac Squad in a Rhino/IG Platoon/Ork Boyz Mob(slugga or Shoota) for the last few turns of an objective game?

The PF is best when attacking multi-wound, heavily armoured enemies, not for defending. Any observant player will just hold back and sink fire, or ignore it in the case of low armoured hordes (IG, 'nid and Orks), they hardly get a save so why should the PF be any different when sheer weight of numbers will probably wipe the squad before it hits?





Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
