As you may or may not know, in my gallery and my P&M blog, I've been building a set of Planetary Empires tiles using Regimental Bases. It's been going rather well, but one thing bothers me...

A Hive City. How on earth would I go about making a decent one, and has anyone tried since reading up on my custom tiles? I'm thinking Plasticard is where I'll need to look, but if anyone else has successfully tried to make their own, I'd love to see some WiP shots and a step-by-step

Not 100% sure here mate, but going by artwork of hive cities:

Most are just a bardon wasteland with destroyed buildings, spore chimneys poke up every where, as do nid towers.

Take a peek at the FW nids terrain if you need inspiration

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

Have you considered an 'arcology' type hive? Bits of sentinel and sensor array, coupled with some beads, might do the trick. That, and BFG parts if they're avaialable, of course. Do you have a type of hive city in mind?

A Squeaky Waaagh!!

Camkhieri: "And another very cool thing, my phones predictive text actually gave me chicken as an option after typing robot, how cool is that."'

Meercat: "All eyes turned to the horizon and beheld, in lonely and menacing grandeur, the silhouette of a single Grot robot chicken; a portent of evil days to come."

You could always just purchase the "Hive City" tile...

Just a thought.

Look on my blog. I'm making my own, because I don't believe $50 for a box of Map tiles is fair. They aren't so essential as to warrant that price. Nor do I think making the Hive City a Sp-ord only item to jack up the price is fair. I'd rather make my own stuff for 1/10 of the cost so that I can save cash for the more important stuff that IS priced fairly.

Arcology isn't a bad idea... Might have to make an Eco-Dome or two.

Hmm... BFG bits is something I never thought about. Good idea! Definately look into that.

Thanks for the pointers all.
