Well, this army has been a long time coming. Now that it's finished, i figured you guys might like to take a look at it.

Sometime last year i got it into my head, then, proving its bloodthirsty nature, preparing the army did this to me...

(that photo was taken just now, and it hasnt come out terribly well. it's also healed for the majority of a year, suffice to say, i sliced open my knee pretty much to the bone and had to have bigass stitches in)

anyway, after taking a bunch of time off, i've finally finished the army (for now)

and here are a bunch more pictures
First, the lord

then Da Nightbringa

Warriors

Scarabs

Wraiths

And here is the Monolith (this is obviously the centrepiece of the army, and amongst everything else it has twelve hundred rivets)
Monolith (With Interior Detail)

Tomb Spyders

And Objective-Piggies

And The Display Board

That is just amazing. Honestly this is one of the most original and well executed armies i've seen on here.
My only gripe is the tomb spyders seem rather lacking compared to the rest. Other than them though everything is perfect. Bloody good job.

Quick Edit: Any chance of getting a tutorial for those piggies they are great :3

Which is more impressive?

A - A model with 1200 rivets
B - A modeler who keeps count

thanks all. i'm glad its been so well received. i'm pretty happy with them.

the idea that spawned the army came from the fact that necrons are pretty bollocks at the moment. they've gone from this sleek shiny new army of precisely dispensed mechanical death, to a shambling outdated monstrosity. so this army is a conveyance of that idea. i asked myself "who would make (s)crap necrons?" and the answer was "orks would"
after making my necromunda Ork Goliath gang, i'd come to enjoy making orkish conversions, and so the idea was born.

its also part of my recently instated "Fun At All Costs" tournament philosophy. taking competitive armies makes for competitive gaming, which is often not much fun. taking a crazy army with clockwork pigs tends to lighten the mood somewhat.

as to the piggies (which are quite popular it seems) they're actually the least work of the entire army, they're a slightly modified model of an existing "mechanical pig" model sold by an australian miniature maker named Eureka. so the tutorial would be "buy a bunch of them, trim the keys down, greenstuff over the extra keyhole (the stock model comes with two keys, one on each side) and assemble"

(the scarabs, incase people are wondering come from Malifaux, and are unconverted. the reason they arent the least work in the army, is they are hella fiddly to assemble. the wraiths and spyders are nearly entirely scratchbuilt. and, apart from some of the glowing rods, the monolith is the only model with actual necron parts)

Love this lots. My only picky criticism is the tomb spiders which don't seem tomb spidery enough(!) to match their necron function - I'd have expected some sort of mobile automated scarab factory?

the spyders fulfil their necrork function by being large lumbering monsterous creatures with melee attacks.
i never poop out scarabs (despite the joy in saying poop) because it risks wounds and attached scarabs are a massive liability in combat resolution. and the increased repair range rarely comes up, because the only things that can benefit from it are warriors, which are usually pretty near other squads anyway.
